Coronavirus: 'Major breakthrough' as UK scientists find £5 steroid cuts COVID-19 deaths
The drug, dexamethasone, reduced death rates by a third for patients on ventilators, and by a fifth for patients needing oxygen
Scientists in the UK have discovered a cheap and available treatment for COVID-19 patients.
They have described the use of common steroid drug dexamethasone in treating the coronavirus as a "major breakthrough".
Professor Peter Horby, a University of Oxford academic who led the trial, said "what we saw was really quite remarkable".
He said the drug reduced death rates by around 35% for COVID-19 patients on ventilators, and by about 20% for patients needing oxygen.
Speaking at the daily Downing Street news briefing, he said: "In three months, we have enrolled over 11,500 patients and this makes it by far the biggest clinical trial in the world."

This is worded weird. First of all, a person on a ventilator obviously needs oxygen. Assuming they mean a "patient needing oxygen" to be just an oxygen tank, you would figure they are less sick than a person on a ventilator, and should have a higher percentage.

At this point, Trump should just come out and question every drug treatment they come out with. Anything that he actually endorses will be demonized with the quickness.

IDK but for me, while cutting death rates for people on ventilators or oxygen is a good thing, it's not a "major breakthrough". A cure that works for nearly 100% of people, or an effective vaccine, are the only real "major breakthoughs" re:COVID-19.

It’s not worded weird at all.
You “assuming” is rather obvious because there is a whole list of supportive oxygen treatments before needing a vent.
As for percentage variation: It’s two different groups with two different baselines. The numbers provided are relative to the respective baseline.
