Coronavirus is about 0.12 microns, Broom said to just cover your face with anything.

Why not mandate everyone wear N95 masks?

Q. Why is the CDC recommending that people wear cloth masks in public?
A. The reason to do this, even though they're not quite the same efficacy as medical masks, is that they do have some level of efficacy. They are not only a way of decreasing breathing in the virus, primarily through large respiratory droplets, but also a behavioral reminder that there's a pandemic and life is not the same right now ? and a reminder not to put our hands in our eyes nose or mouth until we've washed our hands.
If I had COVID-19, I might not even know it. It's not like I'm sneezing and coughing, and have a fever. It's apparent that you can transmit the virus when you are asymptomatic or presymptomatic. So in that case, we're preventing me from exhaling the virus or respiratory particulate matter out onto the public and into the air where others might get infected. The other side of the coin, if you will, is protecting those who are not infected from becoming infected by breathing in air contaminated with virus or respiratory particulate matter.
Q. What's the difference between cloth masks and medical masks, such as an N95 mask?
A. The idea behind an N95 mask is it has a filtering ability down to, and actually below, the size of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. So the coronavirus is about 0.12 microns in diameter and N95 (masks) protect down to 0.1 microns, with 95% efficiency, which is where it gets its name.
We don't want the public to think that the recommendation is for medical masking. That would be detrimental to us as a society, health care providers and patients who are sick with the disease need those masks.

The 0.12 micron argument is asinine. The vast majority of the virus is attached droplets, so the effective particle size is much larger

.12 microns will go through most stuff, but, BUT, the virus is not all by itself. it is attached to its surroundings (spit, mucus, h2o, etc)

So everyone is going to wash their hands after they touch their mask?

Probably before they put their hands in someone else's mouth

Also, if you can stop 50% of the particles leaving your nasty arse mouth, you significantly reduce transmission. This whole argument that, "if it isn't 100% effective, it's pointless," is a theory of fools.

You sound like me explaining girth to my wife.

"With that in mind, think about how thick it is once it's attached to you!"

I don't need "behavioral reminders" forced on me by the government.

I had to go to the drug store today to pick up my son's script.. Mask were required, but I didn't have one. I pulled my shirt over my face and they let me in...

(Not saying this of you, just a thought I had reading this post)
Some people will go so far as to not wear a mask they would rather walk around pulling their shirt over their face thinking thats way more goofy than wearing a mask.

Because it’s not about actual effectiveness as much as it’s a mandate based on fear

It's a mandate based on sound science and evidence. It is being battled with ego and the Dunning-Kruger effect.

I just read an article that said bandanas are the least effective and they stop virtually nothing.
But I've seen multiple posts from health departments that show bandanas as an option.

It's basically a way to get people to keep projectile droplets from exiting their mouths and noses.
Also, a lot of people are constantly touching their mouths and noses without even noticing it. Then they touch everything else. This definitely helps bring that to a conscious level.
