The novel coronavirus, which causes the respiratory disease COVID-19, has become the No. 3 cause of death in the U.S., following heart disease and cancer.

According to a new graph published by Dr. Maria Danilychev, who practices in San Diego, COVID-19 has moved past accidents, chronic lung disease, strokes, Alzheimer's, diabetes, flu and pneumonia, and kidney disease as the third most likely cause of death in the U.S.

The graph uses data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the daily average cause of death and compares this with COVID-19 statistics from Worldometers.info. According to the graph, 748 people per day die from COVID-19 in the U.S., compared with 1,641 cancer deaths and 1,774 heart disease fatalities

This seems incredibly twisted in a way that's hard to ignore the sensationalism and slight glee.

This would be like saying terrorism became the leading cause of death in the US on 9/11.

They are basing it off 700 per day not the yearly tally.

The flu could have killed those people just as easily.

Well this is fricking retarded way of doing a per day estimate

Per day is an average. You don’t just decide on the highest day of something that becomes the per day rate

Yea. It’s like when a football team says they are undefeated before the first game of the season.

No i mean do you care to see as compared to other causes of death where we do things like:
Measures to curtail smoking
Tamiflu
DWI check points
Background checks for weapons
Fukin diplomacy
Etc
You know like other things we get proactive about

Honestly, this is so fricking dumb

Coronavirus is killing 52 people per day in America for 2020

It’s a rolling average, not pick a single day and make that your rate of death

There's less than 5000 US deaths. Are they just basing it on a week's worth of data?
