Don’t be too hard on yourself. It’s no worse than every statistician in this thread who keeps moving the goal posts on when we become Italy.
I'm not trying to be that guy. That number is the high end and then there is the low end.
My point is we simply don't know.
And again, i would think/hope the administration is modeling both scenarios and making decisions based on those models.
Maybe they aren't but it's keeping me sane thinking so.
And trust me, I'm fully in the terrified camp of what this does to our economy. Not denying that at all but I'm not going to sit here and spout off like I know what the best path forward is and that the one we're on is wrong with some kind of certainty.

Not arguing this but you don't think they're weighing this and modeling it?
Maybe not with this administration but fahk i would hope they are.
Hypothetical, choose 1 of these extremes:
Extreme 1: A soulless robot is in charge and makes the most pragmatic decision, it re-opens everything, culls the herd of the weak and those that are "takers" (social security/medicare), and lets the economy explode in record fashion.
Extreme 2: Shut down everything and have MRE bread lines to attempt to save everyone from getting COVID19 and essentially dissolve the economy as we know it over the course of 4-6 months.
If given the choice, I choose #1

Hello....stagflation.

That is the issue.
But people here are all of a sudden infectious disease experts that know everything.

I am as well. As a small business owner that has shut it down, even though I am listed as essential.

Not panicking over the unknown is a positive thing.

What a terrible decision, if true. Like I said, not panicking over the unknown is a positive.

So is not being dumb about it and doing what the actual experts are pleading with us to do.

I'm not necessarily against that either but but let's be realistic. Given current state, you simply can't just take that kind of purely "pragmatic" approach as a politician.
If nothing changes case wise in the next 2-3 weeks, with little stopping of the spread, they will likely change their strategy.
The economy isn't going to dissolve in that time span. You're a smart guy, you know this. There is government cheese to manage 2-3 weeks of slowdown. 100% in your camp if we're talking months but not weeks.
It will be super shitty, especially where we live, but a correction was likely coming anyway in some form.
And if anything, for those of us with cash (thank you bonus), its a big time buy opportunity and potentially lots of real estate downside.
I also say this with a job that is nearly 100% insulated from this unless there is a total catastrophe so I realize I have some bias here. Those in the service industry, real estate, finance etc obviously have a different perspective.

Voluntarily closing your small business that has been declared essential is the opposite of not being dumb.
In fact, the government is asking businesses like this to remain open so society can continue to function. Instead, you're apparently in your house with all of the cracks and crevices duct taped closed.

If the government or my biggest customer, a school board, calls with a critical need, I will respond. Its not that I am completely cut off, just not open.
I also have enough 99% alcohol to disinfect all tools and equipment before and after they are used.
Like STL, I may be a little biased. My company and family are safe because we planned ahead and have enough to get us through for quite some time

So doomsday preppers are the one's telling us all the apocalypse has arrived?
There's a shocker.

Then explain why COVID19 cases won't eventually match or surpass Flu cases.
