so up to 240 cases in the state now according to this, jump from 197 yesterday, about 22%

still only showing 4 deaths though, thats a plus!

Baton Rouge ran approx. 400 tests Monday and Tuesday, we should have much more data by the end of the week.

Almost like more testing will result in more confirmed cases.

No way we get to a million at this rate.

Take it for what it’s worth, but I’m at West Jeff now and heard earlier the 5th patient died here last night. Nurse didn’t have age, prior health, etc.

I read it and I'm still very skeptical. There are other reports out there from legitimate medical professionals who foresee this thing tapering off within the next month or so. There is too much in the realm of the unknown that is hampering legitimately reliable predictions.

I am starting to come around to the idea that if we go into shutting down all nonessential businesses for longer than 2-4 weeks, the impacts to the jobs/financial viability of 70% of the population will be so severe that it will trigger a result much worse than an additional 500k deaths of mostly 80+ yo.

I think if we are able to have treatments that are mostly effective (like the malaria treatment) then that changes the equation of going back to business as usual.

Why lie?

Diamond Princess Study Suggests Mortality Rate is ~0.5%

quote:

Infections and deaths onboard suggest that the disease’s true fatality ratio in China is about 0.5 percent, though that number may vary from place to place, researchers report March 9 in a paper posted at MedRxiv.org.

That 0.5 percent is far less than the 3.4 percent of confirmed cases that end in death cited by the World Health Organization, but troubling nonetheless. The WHO’s number has come under fire because the true number of people infected with the virus worldwide is not known.

I’m not saying it’s not 0.5, but China’s actions have continued to show their numbers cannot be viewed as accurate or reliable.

The 0.5% figure doesn't come from China's numbers. It comes from the study done on the cruise ship passengers. It's simply stating that the mortality rate in China is likely around 0.5%.

I think it’s hard to look at the deaths now because people are not comparing deaths to recoveries. To end up at 0.5%, we will need to start seeing a significant amount more recoveries.

This.

Older/mostly retired adults are the highest risk, as well as heart disease, diabetes, and lung disease people are at risk.

The CDC has clearly stated that kids and workforce age adults are much lower risk
