How much more likely are rich people to travel internationally and to associate with other people who travel internationally?
Posted on 3/16/20 at 2:36 pm to LNCHBOX
LNCHBOX, I responded to why the 0.5% CFR is a likely minimum as an average across the US.
I gave you data and information, and you did nothing but troll. Germany is testing very extensively. The Diamond Princess case was tested about as well as you can.
Yes as testing ramps up the CFR will look better. But using today's infections vs today's fatalities is misleading as fatalities lag infection by a couple weeks. When you consider the doubling time is five to six days for this outbreak, you should be cutting the number of cases at least in half.
The true CFR is only known where you have a closed system (Diamond Princess) or once the peak of the spread has sufficiently passed. And as health systems get inundated with cases the CFR will increase ala Wuhan and Italy. Age is obviously a huge factor in where different countries end up. That favors Germany and hurts Italy and China.

Awww shite. My good friend's wife just got a presumptive positive test for the WuFlu in Baton Rouge. Would be one of the first in EBR. Waiting on lab results.
Haven't seen him in a few weeks.

We have been beating the same dead horse for over a month and you still don’t get it.
And the response is simple. Quarantine the old folks and let everyone go about their lives as they normally would making sure they know they need to stay home when sick and wash often. Boom. CFR down. Hospitals stay afloat. Economy and businesses continue on. But Nooooooooooooooo. We gotta keep spiraling down to martial law, curfews, and being locked in our homes because America can’t tolerate a few thousand people dying from a virus. Except we do it every damn year.

Why is the CDC director (Redfield) never at these White House press conferences or taking an active role it seems?
Dr Fauci who is director of NIAID seems to be the face of the medical side of things and doing most of the speaking, interviews etc. Not that I have a problem with him as he seems to be a pretty straight shooter. Just wondering why CDC is taking a back seat. Is it because they fricked things up the last couple months? I only started watching these press conferences a few days ago.

Haven't seen a lot of activity in Russia yet. Wonder when that picks up. Would think it'd be a likely hotspot given the big populations centers and climate.

Trump says this could last until July or August. I don't how we're going to handle this. Not sure how working class Americans, particularly those who don't work where they can get paid sick leave, will make it.

Probably because Redfield has looked completely incompetent anytime he has spoken. Take his appearance in front of the House committee last week as a prime example.
I can't imagine he won't be canned when this is done. Just a bad look to fire him in the middle of all of this. Actually, he will probably just resign to save some face.

That will probably be the answer once we get through this initial wave. What you posted above will likely be the “new normal”. With large gatherings still prohibited.
The problem is we don’t know what this first wave is going to be like and no one wants to be the next Wuhan or Lombardy. It’s easy to be an armchair quarterback.

If you listened to Trump’s 1st press conference, he said he’d been working with the CEOs of the large private labs and other business for 10 days. Seems like to worked around the CDC to get more tests made and distributed. He’s continued with this partnership between government and private business since then. I think I decided to let them continue to do their thing but to work around them for faster response.

If people would have not been idiots and just been a touch cautious, we would be fine. The group that thumbed their noses at the situation and claimed how foolish it was and went about their business out of spite...they are to blame. Not those that are just a little cautious. You are correct, but the root cause you have is not correct.
