don't get why our government, who at every facet of our life wants to control us, knows what's best for us, etc., is sitting on its dick with stuff like this. Are they afraid people will get pissed if they shut down travel here?
Nah, let's just let over 2k of these people come into one of the most heavily populated cities in America and disappear into the unknown.
How exactly do you expect this to work considering we didn't know this thing existed for most of that time?

So they developed fevers 3-6 days after exposure? That sounds better than the week or two before symptoms from some places I've read.
The cause of the difference is that all exposures aren't equal.
Its theothetically possible to have a low grade slow burn that takes weeks to turn symptomatic due to a very very low infectious dose. These are why you see multi week periods before the "all clear" is sounded.
In normal practice flus, colds, and gastroenteritis pathogens make their presence known on far shorter time tables. You aren't exposed to a bare couple of thousand infectious agents, but tens or even hundreds of thousands.

Don’t you think if we have more people studying to scientists/researchers and them finding cures for diseases is better than people obsessed with American idol?
I mean look at the people involved in trying to solve this virus problem. Don’t you want more of them around?

Are you trolling? I guarantee you there are plenty of scientists and doctors out there who watch a decent amount of sports and other forms of entertainment. Hell we have some on this board. Most people aren’t obsessed about celebrities to the point that they don’t have time to do productive things.

So we need more entertaining yet informative documentaries to drive interest... entertainers kind of have a platform to spread the word create interest and provide funding for research. Especially when the state cuts funding. It isn't gonna be war that destroys the world it will be something more microscopic.

Oh yeah that worked just fricking fantastic when bimbo Jenny McCarthy went on her soapbox about Dr. Wakefield's bogus study on MMR vaccine.

3k to Istanbul
2.7k to JFK
So this is where you will see how contagious this thing really is and how much 1st world environments impact the spread. Should know in the next day or two.

She is partly responsible for housewives that worship at the alter of Oprah and other celebrities thinking their child will get autism if they get the MMR vaccine
Years later and we still can't fully shake the damage done by people buying into that lie.

So the housewives should take more responsibility in focusing on basic science since they have plenty of free time?

That may doom you.
See the 1918 flu. It mainly killed healthy younger men.

Yep and I think one of the reasons they think it did was because they weren't exposed to as many flu viruses as someone older.
Another is they think the virus may have triggered a cytokine storm that ravages the stronger immune systems of young adults.

Still weird the Chinese still being so quiet. Few words for blocking off major cities

Not allowing kids to eat dirt and sanitary wipes after touching anything have weakened us.

They don't believe the science maybe? Or maybe they have told people but there is just an ignorant and dense population the information hasn't spread quite like it would in America. Or maybe it just isn't that bad where overreacting isn't a bad thing.

For comparison to sars:
quote:
Between November 2002 and July 2003, an outbreak of SARS in southern China caused an eventual 8,098 cases, resulting in 774 deaths reported in 17 countries,[1] with the majority of cases in China mainland and Hong Kong[2]
