You don’t get that much mutational phenotypic flux in a couple of host generations. The variability comes from trying to mathematically express the behavior with limited data, and different opinions on how to extrapolate the gaps.

If the video is legit, the fact any Chinese would attempt such a breakout is quite a remarkable development. Those Chinese individuals know they - and their families - could easily be caught and "disappeared." Therefore, that breakout indicates a major level of desperation and carefully calculated defiance.
The Chinese government ultimately cares more about preventing this level of civil disobedience than it does about the final body count related to the disease.

I read a few years ago about how some diseases are transmitted from animals to humans. A few began, theoretically, because of pigeon racers in Asia sucked the snot out of their pigeons nostrils whenever their racers became sick. You can only imagine how many other ways things spread from animals. Dirt poor people do desperate things.

Yea, we should start to see a pretty big gap open up between fact & fiction this week as data comes in from areas outside of China. Looking for human-to-human in US and deaths in areas outside of China.

This is absolutely true, especially since there are multiple reports of hospitals in Wuhan (and other places) turning away sick people who suspect they have the coronavirus.
At the same time, we don't know how many have already died due to the coronavirus, yet their official cause of death is listed as something else due to political pressure.
The entire situation is at a fog of war level, and that's why wild rumors are floating around with as much currency as legit facts.

Or it indicates that the Chinese government don’t really care about the lockdown. They just care about the international optics. You aren’t risking anything if They don’t really care what you do.
From the first big news break the scientific assessment was that even a 99% effective quarantine would only have a marginal effect on viral spread going forward. We were already past the point of containment measures having efficacy in China.
Majority of the photos look like local grass roots improvisations rather than official lockdowns anyway.

We also dont know if they have been doing this legit. They cremated the body of a lady and told the family they pretty much had no choice in the matter. Can you imagine elderly or single patients that have died and they disposed of them? I mean they are already known for mass graves, organ harvesting and killing their people.
In a few videos I have seen, I have heard what sounded like gunshots as well. I have seen the military with weapons and have heard others discuss that they are being used. These are large cities that are probably better than a majority of the country and they are blocked off. I bet the reports are far from accurate.

Yeah, I get that. That was one of my thoughts as well, which means that maybe it isnt as serious, but these towns from video footage seemed like a ghost town.

That's absolutely possible. I do think, however, there are regional government officials who care desperately about preventing their cities and provinces from becoming the next Wuhan. Their concern is less about minimizing human death and suffering and more about keeping the suffering isolated within Hubei province.
But we're all in the dark because regional authorities have adopted haphazard approaches grounded in regional politics. And Xi Jinping is suddenly preaching the importance of "collective action" since it's no longer advantageous to be the "paramount leader for life."
