France and Spain are kind of under the radar right now but both are over 2,000 cases and have nCFR of 2.1 & 2.4%.

Germany is interesting since they have a nCFR of 0.2%.

Smoking?

Germans aren't really known for smoking whereas Italians and French are?

Hell of a stretch, just wondering.

It's not just that. I'm not an expert in infectious diseases, but this makes it seem like if you walk through an area where someone sneezed coughed or sneezed, you can get it. Someone that knows more make sure I'm saying this correctly, please.

quote:

Federally funded tests conducted by scientists from several major institutions indicated that the novel form of coronavirus behind a worldwide outbreak can survive in the air for several hours.

quote:

A study awaiting peer review from scientists at Princeton University, the University of California-Los Angeles and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) posted online Wednesday indicated that the COVID-19 virus could remain viable in the air "up to 3 hours post aerosolization," while remaining alive on plastic and other surfaces for up to three days.

quote:

"Our results indicate that aerosol and fomite transmission of HCoV-19 is plausible, as the virus can remain viable in aerosols for 42 multiple hours and on surfaces up to days," reads the study's abstract.

“Prior to tip-off as the game was delayed, Chris Paul ran over to the Utah bench and said “what’s wrong with Rudy?” and they all yelled for him to get away. Now all the players are quarantined in their locker rooms, being tested for the virus.”

Seems pretty clear that some countries are testing vigorously and some countries are the US.

It is insane on the surface. No way to argue otherwise. However, if you think a little deeper, it makes sense. It's not about the current impact - it's about the cumulative impact if it becomes endemic.

This is exactly why Taleb is saying. You have to stop every novel virus early, you can’t wait to see it’s true potential otherwise it’s too late. I’m not saying I completely agree but he has a point.

It’s why very early in this thread a lot of us were saying to ban all travel, and ridiculed. Because the economic impacts of stopping travel are way less than the impacts of an out of control virus for many months.

How soon do you think it'll be before we get school closures all across America?

Kind of crazy to think the NBA suspending its season happened before the government decided to stop sending children and teachers to school especially after one of the worst flu seasons in recent memory.

Why? It's barely a common cold for high school aged kids.

Yeah, but they can spread their “mild cold” to elderly family members. Consider that kids with asthma and other health problems are at higher risk for a serious case.

I think people need to stay calm but it’s important to take this seriously.

I’m thinking March madness may be next. Did you see Fred Hoiberg left the Nebraska game to head to the hospital?

So do we now have enough tests to test a basketball team or two? I mean that upsets me that people who were sick and had fever were turned away and not allowed to be tested and then they got really sick.

I mean I’m glad they’re testing — I guess I should ask if they’re using available tests wisely at this time.

I’m on day six of the crud. I have had no difficulty breathing although my wheezing is slightly horrifying . Fever has never progressed above 100. Bronchitis like symptoms and mild body aches. The main characteristic is extreme fatigue. Not that I’m sleeping much . On the suffering scale I’d say I’m at a 3.5. Multiple family/ friend ties to Vietnam/ China.

Any other year this was a common cold that progressed to acute bronchitis. This year though everyone that feels like shite has to wonder. That said, honestly don’t care if it is or isn’t. It is what is is. Such is life. There are a million ways to suffer and or die. It’s all the same. The human condition.

I'd say by Sunday they'll have over half the schools closed for weeks.

What? Comprehending that old people get sick and die? When it’s the flu or pneumonia, no one cares apparently. At least not enough to react the way everyone is to covid19. I wonder why that is. Media coverage? Group think? Outrage syndrome?

If the flu had a 5-10% mortality rate for people over 70 with no vaccine, we would be freaking out over that too.
