My son has had a dry cough for about a week. That’s his only symptom. It’s seem like a more productive cough in that afternoon. He hasn’t slowed down. Played tee ball with him in our backyard this afternoon. He won 5-0 by his count.

I’ve had a dry cough for about a day. Started to feel it last night. It’s not persistent at all just a small tickle. No nose drainage. A little less energy than usual but only really felt it after 9 holes of golf and the tee ball game. Feel good right now.

He’s 6. I’m in my 30s.

I’ve struggled with bronchitis and ridiculous congestion for 6 weeks. Can’t kick it. Sleeping about 10-12 hours a day.

You can’t understand what he’s saying because you have a more narrow view than him.

He is thinking of risk on a species level time frame. A slight economic downturn on those scales isn’t as significant as a potential deadly novel virus that in the future could be way worse than this one even if very unlikely (Think respiratory spread of Ebola)

I know what he's saying. He's trying to extrapolate his expertise on random events to virology. He argues every new potential threat should immediately be treated as though it's an extinction level event until its proven otherwise. He thinks the infinitesimal chance it is outweighs any economic cost.

That's fine and dandy on a philosophical level, but arguing that should dictate policy basically ignores everything we know about humans.

I’m very curious as to why travel from Europe is shut down as of midnight on Friday. Why not immediately? That basically gives all those folks currently in Europe time to come back to the U.S. with Covid-19. Seems illogical to me.

I’m guessing you would feel a bit differently if you were in Europe on vacation right now. I’m sure people traveling back will be quarantined.

Will those travelers be able to outsmart the ban and get to the UK and then fly home from there?

There are these things called passports, and they are pretty good at indicating which countries you’ve recently traveled to.

Is anyone else on an immunosuppressant drug? I'm on Humira and my Rheum says i shouldn't stop treatment, but this stuff is starting to freak me out a little bit.

Anyone with any insights or heard anything about people on a biologic being fine?

For what it's worth, only foreign nationals coming from Europe are banned. Americans can come back without issue, although presumably quarantined.

That’s crazy . You are MUCH worse than I am. What I’m worried about is this being the immune system weakening precursor to exposure to CV later. Know what I mean? You fight bronchitis or the flu and THEN at your low point you get exposed to CV. That’s why I’m glad it is March and not January. Maybe the calendar is on our side.

That makes sense to me, slackster. His speech was a bit vague regarding the travel ban. I would certainly hope they would quarantine the Americans coming home from European areas with large numbers of cases.

A person I know well who works at a certain hospital system in New Orleans just told me there's a definite confirmed case there...

From peak to trough, the S&P 500 is basically saying coronavirus/oil is nearly half as big a deal as the global financial crisis.

That is purely panic. Quite the opportunity for most people.

This would be the only concern I have about it. I don’t think my respiratory or immune system could take on another fight right now. I’m chock full of water and vitamins and the inhaler is my best friend.
Rest up!

If yall think the panic is bad now, just wait for if/when older politicians catch the disease. It's especially brutal to people 70+ and that includes several of the most important government leaders.

If RGB, Breyer, Trump, Mitch, Biden, or any other person like this catches it, the panic will make today's look tame.

Italian medical chief dies from coronavirus
From Helena de Moura

Italy’s medical community is mourning the death of the head of the medical association in the northern Italian region of Varese, Italy’s state-run ANSA reported Wednesday.

Roberto Stella, president of the Medical Guild of Varese, died Tuesday night in Como, where the 67-year-old was hospitalized for respiratory failure due to coronavirus, the agency reported.

In a statement, Italy’s National Federation of Doctors and General Practitioners mourned Stella’s death, highlighting his contributions on a national level. They added that they hope the government will take notice of the dangers Italian doctors and nurses are facing.

“He was the example of the capability and hard work of family doctors,” said Silvestro Scotti, national secretary of the federation, said in a statement released Wednesday.

“His death represents the outcry of all colleagues who still today are not equipped with the proper individual protection needed."
