Got a call from one of our clinics saying a woman called all angry demanding to be tested for it. We currently only do testing in cooperation with the state (meaning we collect samples if they meet state testing criteria).
Says she has been sick all week. Then mentions she needs an appointment in the afternoon cause she is busy running errands that morning.
If you are truly sick....stay the frick home people.

Countries/regions where the virus HASN'T overwhelmed hospitals
SK
Japan
Hong Kong
Singapore
Where it has
Iran
Italy
China
Why assume America will be the latter and not the former?
Because those countries in the first list tested everyone and stopped all group events that might spread the disease. The US, like the countries in the 2nd group, isn't testing very many people, so the disease is spreading rapidly among people who only have mild symptoms and then pass it on to someone else.

It’s $600 a test. Don’t think insurance will pay anything special as of right now
That's nuts
If it stays $600 many people will skip getting tested and continue to spread it.

You don't know if the virus is spreading rapidly.

Cubicle workers are working from home and school districts and UW are moving to remote learning.
Will there be more cases? Of course.

Since a lot of medical runs end up in death, even before they show up to he scene
my question
is has anyone heard, or can dead people be tested? Seems like they could. I just know a lot of people are dying and not going to a hospital. It is a 911 medical run where a funeral home is notified upon completion of law enforcement crime scene clearing which is usually quickly. I don't know of any testing being done, though. Law enforcement (crime scene) is not asking for it, nor do I know of medical response teams asking for it.
Hmmm
Seems to me, to get good stats, anyone fitting the bill in symptoms (and age) probably should be tested.

On the weekly COVId-19 conference call I was on today with Maricopa County public health...no one could give us information on cost of test and if it was covered by insurance/Medicaid/Medicare
It was announced last week that Medicaid and Medicare would cover. I believe their issue is they can't accept the new CPT code for a few weeks so they will pay retroactively.
Private insurers are moving that way as well.
It gets a little complicated, but there's a difference between what an insurance carrier, a self funded plan, etc are required to do depending on who says it, but in the end all will come around.

Sounds about right. I have people come in all the time for routine services after just being diagnosed with the flu.

What we were also told (at least for our area) is that Labcorp and Quest don’t do the actual specimen collection. So people can’t go to their nearest Labcorp location. The provider has to collect the specimen and then send it to Labcorp or Quest.

Cigna was the first to waive all costs associated with testing. Then Aetna waives copays. Humana has waived costs with some, but not all plans as has BCBS.

What doesn’t make sense....is the clinic swabbed her twice for the flu.
Didn’t do an RPP swab after the first rapid flu/rsv was negative

Since nobody will answer my legit question about testing dead people at the end of 911 medical runs ending in obvious death (they go straight to the funeral home) with deceased fitting the test criteria (which I actually know the answer and that is NO which will take away valuable stats)
let me just ask this:
Has the President been tested!?!?!

Not according to the White House.
quote:
Stephanie Grisham, the White House spokeswoman, said Trump has not taken a COVID-19 test because he did not have prolonged, close contact with any patients. She also said that he has no symptoms, but will be closely monitored by his physician.
Has Trump been tested?

It would be very unusual if not impossible to drop dead from this virus without anyone seeing the warning signs. Maybe if the patient died quickly of something else and had an subclinical infection at the same time. Either way I don’t see testing DOA patients as being very useful or meaningful right now.

Thanks
Next question:
Has nobody with the CDC ever sold anything on Ebay? They can’t deliver mail (test kits) with delivery confirmation? Doesn't overnight come with free delivery confirmation?
I know they do a wonderful job of patting each other on the back, but why can’t they tell us how many test kits have been delivered, or how many people have been tested?
South Korea laughs.
Who would have thought our federal government can't, or won’t, share information, or be able to coordinate with the state level and the private sector?
Are you surprised?
But hey, they did offer us a pre-school level information guide last night.
