The head of the Lombardy's intensive care crisis unit says the health system is on the brink of collapse, intensive care being set up in hallways. By March 26 they predict ~18,000 #Covid19 cases in Lombardy, of which ~3,000 will need intensive care.

Well that sucks.

So let’s see if this follows the same path as China. Numbers should start to stabilize and then decrease. The unknown is if the people will be on board. China, wether out of fear or a sense of community, pulled off a ridiculous quarantine. Will be interesting to see how Italy responds.

People are going to have to decide if they want to be inconvenienced for a few weeks or have people die because they can’t get basic care.

It's also most likely going to occur here and in every country that will be effected.

So I get that it’s contagious. I get that it affects mostly elderly as far as death rates.

I’m wondering why so many hospitalized — do you really need to bring you aren’t having trouble breathing requiring assistance? What’s the treatment for this once you’re diagnosed??

I’m just having a hard time wrapping my brain around this and the potential for quarantine.

Depends, are they going to force people to stay inside or just within the provinces? China forced people to stay inside with very limited options to travel out for food. They tracked people with technology and anyone found out with a fever was forced into a quarantine center. I guess most figured that home quarantine was desirable to some random gym with a bunch of randos.

I think we all know what a sizable portion of the US population will prefer.

SIAP that a church group from Mobile Landed in Israel Mar 3, went to their hotel. A departed guest got home to Greece where he tested positive for Corona, leading to testing the hotel staff where there were multiple positive tests.

The church group was told to leave the hotel which they did. Then they were told to return to the hotel, which they did, and the hotel turned them away. While taking shelter at a local home, authorities came, told them to return to the hotel and they are now quarantined for 14 days.

Not exactly a scenario that fills you will a good feeling that TPTB have a firm grip on the situation.

The OT motto has been, "What? Old People? Phhhhh"

I hope I never get old and have to depend on TDs for something

If you get a severe case, viral pneumonia has been the main route that the fatalities have occurred. Having a ventilator is key for those cases.

Right and if you experience it like a common cold and quarantine at home, what is the treatment?

I am a contract worker in a nursing home — I am bracing to be told at some point to not go in. State law/regs (and common sense) say that I can’t chart/assess a resident without seeing them. We use emr so I’d have all info. Guess I’ll lhabe to wait and see how this plays out.

Also my dtr is home on spring break from oos school. Praying that she doesn’t end up going back only to have to quarantine or classes canceled.

I’m starting to be very concerned with the economic and logistic side of this whole thing. I’m not worried about getting sick but I do worry about my parents with their ages (75, 71) and heart issues.

Nothing really.

That aren’t what the hospitalizations are. (Assuming not a poor man’s quarantine)

Those are ones who have compromised respiratory and warrants extra monitoring. Maybe meds to dry off lungs, oxygen masks, etc.

They really really don’t want to intubate. nosocomial infections from protracted intubation while you have wet lungs from the viral infections kill a lot on their own.

The below illustrates the bad outcome progression. Most will have essentially a cold. However almost all of the pneumonia cases require extended hospitalization.

So if a vaccine is released “soon” how many of you trust the government and will take it?

I am not an anti vaxer and I take a flu shot yearly but a quickie vaccine would I think make me nervous.

That’s a loaded question with a lot of variables in judgement.

Look for multiple regional quarantine zones in the US regulated by the National Guard. Possible martial law being declared. Overwhelmed morgues and crematoriums well into the summer months.

If you wanna shite stir, commit.

Predict that they won’t allow spectators to the LSU season opener/no tailgating.
