It is currently accepted South Korea has done the most proactive testing. The mortality rate in SK stands at 0.53%. That is quite a different number than the 3% mortality rate. There is an 85% drop in mortality rates between China and South Korea

Mortality rate is based on a defined population and is usually expressed as N per 100,000 and in the US flu mortality is estimated to be between 2 - 6 per 100,000. CFR is typically expressed as a % and in the US CFR for flu is estimated to be 0.01 - 0.04% (looking exclusively at flu deaths and not all ILI deaths). So they are totally different ways of looking at deaths.

There is no firm COVID19 mortality or CFR for SK but there are modeled estimates based on the current data. As of today, there are only 68 resolved cases in SK - 34 deaths & 34 recoveries. There are 5,118 active cases. Since we don't know what the outcomes of those cases will be, we can't make any declarations about mortality or CFR in SK.

Oh.

I probably should seek medical attention, then.

Understood, in your opinion, what makes this strain so much more aggressive than the average one towards elderly people?

If anything I’m worried about my father (who has rheumatoid arthritis and would fit that exposed demographic).

Again tell me why everyone is freaking out about this crap again? Unless you are in a nursing home and either have one or a combo of the following: cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, hypertension, and/or cancer this is nothing more than a manufactured crisis.

I think some of you are just hungry for a death plague just for the excitement or for political purposes.

80+ years old DEATH RATE confirmed cases 21.9% DEATH RATE all cases 14.8%

70-79 years old 8.0%

60-69 years old 3.6%

50-59 years old 1.3%

40-49 years old 0.4%

30-39 years old 0.2%

20-29 years old 0.2%

10-19 years old 0.2%

0-9 years old no fatalities
WHO/CCDC

I'm flying out today so excuse me if I risk the .4% death rate if I catch this thing. Quarantine the old folks homes and the death rate will plummet.

7th death from the Washington nursing home reported. This death was actually the first but was just confirmed to be covid19.

Quarantine the nursing homes since this is who it primarily impacting. Everyone else can proceed with their normal routine.

Are you saying that immunity from exposure to one of the 4 endemic human coronavirus provides cross immunity against SARS-COV-2?

Pretty much the only people flipping out are whatever antedoctal stories you bring with you.

Why don’t you ask them? Because you are literally repeating what most here have said.

While I know where you are coming from, yes we can say the mortality rate will drop considerably. China is already starting to close hospitals and easing quarantine.

There are trade associations cancelling conventions and instituting travel bans for their employees because of the media induced hype.

Time to cash out of those funeral home stocks now that word is finally getting out that this is much ado about nothing.

I sincerely apologize for the masses who are addicted to reality news networks. You can listen to Anderson Cooper or you can look at statistical data--I'll go with the statistics every single time.

The panic is retarded. My janitorial staff last night were scared to clean my office for fear of catching this dreaded virus. I had to show them the same stats before they calmed down so they would empty my trash can.

So this isn’t anywhere close to as bad as H1N1 which did kill younger people and didn’t hit old people disproportionately hard like the flu and Covid is doing. OT Covid Q wishcasters BTFO’d.
