At Rapides General right now for unrelated reason, can confirm some staff wearing masks, most not. Was at a rural ER last night and deputies brought in an inmate wearing a mask.

PA man tested for the virus (negative results) interviewed on Fox. He was coughing and shared a water bottle with his young daughter. Jesus Christ.

I see the country breakdown with critical serious, mild, etc. Is there a way to break it down by individual state?

He looked like the Iran Health Minister.

Dude has to be trolling, right?
Why bring his daughter if she wasn’t tested/quarantined too?
Seems like a set up, especially the water bottle and drinking it.

Wait until this hits the metropolitan areas/cities in South/Central America.Sheer Population Density is ripe for this to spread.

I think at the end of the day, this thing is going to have a greater financial impact than actual plague apocalyptic scenario.
The travel and trade show industry, really any big events outside the US are screwed.
Switzerland just canceled the Geneva Auto Show and banned all public/private gatherings of 1,000 people until the middle of March.
The trickle down is huge. All those record low unemployment rates? Throw that shite out the window. By summer, layoffs will start coming in droves.
Oil and gas is getting beat down. All transportation sectors are fricked. Then once people start seeing the impact, they'll stop making big purchases which hurts retail.
I've got money saved but wish I had even more cash.
One good thing that may come of all this is that the U.S. might finally embrace remote work.
The trend has been coming but I think companies are going to realize finally that forcing people to commute long distances to an office is an outdated and quite frankly inefficient and expensive model.
Hey, WaWaWeeWa? This isn’t discussion. This is a (very mild) example of “panic.” There will be an economic impact, but not to the point of inducing a cataclysmic spiral. Would would have thought the basis of the global economy were conferences and the ability to run up the corporate expense account on hotels and booze
The versions that warranted the “really” gif were the non-troll posts thinking that this was going to change everything, this has the potential to cause a human extinction, etc.

One of my main points is if a virus comes around that is very bad news we are ill equiped to handle it. CDC has been a clownshow. You cannot trust the governments where these things originate.

That’s fine, I agree. I thought those claims of panic were directed at me

BNO Newsroom @BNODesk · 23m BREAKING: At least 210 people in Iran are believed to have died of coronavirus, according to the BBC, citing hospital sources. The official death toll is 34.
Get your shite together Iran
I seem to remember a poster here who said he heard from sources that Iran had a Wuhan type situation on their hands. This was probably a week before anything from Iran came out.

Iran's health care system is so bad, they're gonna have to rely on outside help at some point.

Any thoughts on why death rate is so high in Italy?

21 out of 821 or 2.55% to date. Maybe it hit a pocket of elderly people?

Apparently they have an older population that is succumbing to the disease.

Borrelli: "21 dead, 821 infected in Italy
821 are infected in Italy with Coronavirus. The new data was provided by Commissioner Angelo Borrelli during the press conference to the Civil Protection. "At 5pm there are 821 people suffering from coronavirus in Italy, to which are added 46 cured and 21 dead". The head of Civil Protection, at a press conference, stressed that 345 people are hospitalized and 64 in intensive care. "Four people died today, three of whom are over 80 years old and a 77 year old. We still don't know if they died as a result of coronavirus. The Higher Institute of Health will tell us," he added.
But here is some positive news from Italy:
quote:
In Veneto 151 cases (+18), 33 hospitalized
There are 151 cases of positivity to the Coronavirus tests in Veneto, according to the latest update released by the Region and relating to 1 pm. Of these, 95 are asymptomatic, 33 are the total inpatients, of which 9 in intensive care. The largest outbreak remains in Vò Euganeo, with 70 cases, followed by Treviso with 23, then Venice with 10, Limena with 9, Mirano with 5 and Vicenza with 3
That's 62.9% asymptomatic. Source link; aggregation of news in Italian - translate it if you don't know italian
And some positive news from China:

A total of 544 patients recovered from COVID-19 had donated their plasma to help 245 patients, 91 of whom have seen improvements in their symptoms, Guo Yanhong, an official with the National Health Commission, said at a news briefing on Friday.

There is one town in Italy that has 84 people in the ICU. Maybe that area got overwhelmed and like the other poster said demographics could be older. I also suspect it’s much more widespread in Italy than 600+ cases.
