Well when you take that part out of context....
I am saying the United States should take stronger measures in the future to make sure viruses don't get here from places like China in the first place. Because once here we cannot hide from it and ruin our economy.

Out of context or you didn’t say what you meant? 
Think about what you are saying though. People brought it here from multiple countries.
What stronger measures are needed and when? Think about the timeline. Virus spreads through China. China lies and it happens to be their new year when they get tons of visitors from out of country. People go back home and it spreads before anyone is really aware of the seriousness. There’s zero data to go by. We shut down travel from China but it’s already in 30 other countries including our own. By then it’s too late to stop spread. Our only option is to slow it. Unless you take the “never gonna get it” approach and lock yourself down completely with zero interactions. Sure, you might starve but hey the virus didn’t kill you so you win!

I called it at the start of it, that Temp sensors at all intl ports and denial of entry if above along with fashion face masks would be here.... just like Hong Kong and the likes

I hope I either:
A. Get it sooner rather than later, as I am young and healthy now
B. If I do get it later in life, I hope it has mutated to a less lethal virus (likely)
People hoping and thinking they can never get this virus seems like a pipe dream to me

Define “the start.” When it was already here and way more widespread than reported?
You got a study out of LA county via antibodies that over 4% of the population has been infected. That’s 55 times the official case count. It was here way before anyone knew about it.

The funny thing is anyone with a brain knew this before these antibody reports. It was so obvious based on how bad the "flu" was this year.

I am not living in the past. I am trying to learn from it. In the future we should have intelligence focused on this type of thing. We should have it now but again moving on.
With that intelligence we should make decisions to protect the united states.
If no intelligence then when china starts lying and digging up roads and ordering all available medical supplies from United States then we have to act on it immediately.

I would argue that slowing the spread too much only extends our economic lockdown. Spread is both good and bad. Too much and it overwhelms a few hospitals in dense areas. Too little and this takes too long to propagate extending the shutdown unnecessarily.

Wuhan was locked down on January 23rd. Travel Ban on to/from only China on January 31st. I would argue that in the future that action needs to be swifter. I would also argue that it would need to extend further than China and have quarantines for people who have traveled abroad.

Once it is here we are screwed and may as well take our lumps. Locking down economy with no end in sight isn't a great idea. The key is to not let it get here.

Nothing would completely stop it from getting here. Imagine delaying the initial spread and spike to August when school starts. All those little kids spreading it around. College kids traveling from home. So many interactions that you’d have people wishing that the spreads started in May or maybe even March...

Even if it is destined to get a virus here we can at least have processes in place to have adequate PPE and other equipment. Expand beds. Basically be ready so we don’t have to flatten the curve.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m cool with learning from the mistakes to make people feel better about keeping the economy open if this happens again. The PPE and bed capacity are two easy targets. I’m not sure I would be so drastic so quickly with the travel though. I think that affects way more people than you think and it could be completely unnecessary depending on the extent.
My thoughts, from the beginning, for a virus like this is to control spread and protect those who are most vulnerable. I got a lot of flack a month ago in this thread for laughing at the doomsdayers and giving the simple suggestion of quarantining they old and unhealthy. As many downvotes as I got back then, I’d get 10x the upvotes now for those posts.

WE have a total of 4 deaths at our nursing home with either 4/5 in the hospital and a shite ton of positive residents WITH some results that are still pending.
My heart breaks for the residents and their families and the employees dealing with this. That said, you can't run from it and need to open this economy.
