Wow. You seem lost
Are you saying its the same as the flu? If I'm lost, why is that?

I'm not saying that the death rate justifies the shutdown at all but equating it to the flu is disingenuous at best.
This is not a normal Flu, but comparable to the 1957 Flu that killed 116,000 in a USA that had less than half the population of today and 70% less people over 75. Adjusted for an aging and larger population the 116000 that the 1957 Flu killed would be 275000-300000 today.
Much less lethal than the Spanish Flu that would have killed 7 Million with our population today.
People need to understand that people die all the time. We lose 440000 a year to cigarettes and they are legal.
Cancel festivals, reduce capacity in some places, remote work where possible, close waiting rooms and resume nearly all normal economic activity.

Much more contagious, but with more and more data coming in, the death rate may come in line with the Flu... And there is a vaccine for the flu.

The expectation is that we can use methods that would prevent a population normalized death number that you threw out.
You are misunderstanding me. I am not in favor of keeping it locked down. I'm in favor of opening it up but with a society that understands, and attempts to mitigate, the risks. People running around saying its just a cold or the flu will frick this up for everyone.
Open it up but this is not the flu.

We don't have any methods to treat Covid 19 that they didn't have to treat the 1957 Flu.
It took 9 months to make a vaccine for the 1957 flu.
1957 flu showed up February/March 1957, cases declined during the summer, came back with a vengeance in the fall. The vaccine was approved for widespread use in October. Without the vaccine, epidemiologists suggest more than 1 million would have died in the US.
The Dow declined 15% during the fall of 1957 due to worries about it.

I understand that. Hopefully we're better now at it.

Until we figure out which antiviral works, we are not better. Basic medicine has not changed. Fauci went to medical school just a few years after the 1957 Flu.

I used the population of the whole state not just the city. You think upstate has 25-35% infected also?

From a virus standpoint, other than improved vaccines and symptomatic treatment, I agree.

My Parish has zero deaths and has not had a new case since last Thursday. We have had a total of less than 70 cases.
Our mayor says she will only do what the governor does and not follow the trump guidelines so we still have stay at home, only essential businesses, and a curfew.
I’m lost how this is reality.
Oh, and we were graded a D for social distancing.
How can these fact lead me to any conclusion other than this virus ain’t all that?

Oh, and we were graded a D for social distancing.
It’s based on how far you travel in a day
Country guy in the sticks drives 10 miles to go fishing. F for social distancing
Guy in New York travels .5 miles on the subway where he stands packed next to 100+ people . A for social distancing
This alone should let you know how genius our leaders are
