That’s far more cases than SARS and MERS but far fewer deaths for similar numbers. Of course, MERS is still a problem so we don’t yet know if it will get worse.
The Wuhan virus promises to be much more widespread and seems certain to have an economic effect, especially in China. However, it doesn’t appear to be shaping up as the great depopulator some are fearing.

When the government tells you to not panic, it's time to panic.

how do some of you get through the damn day?
Explain to me why we should keep flying in people from a pandemic area when there are reports of asymptomatic transmission
Are you that dense?
What are we risking by suspending travel while we gather information? There is no going back once the genie is out of the bottle so I hope you are right

Honestly the US should close its borders immediately and ban all travel to and from other countries until there is a cure. But it is probably too late as there are already cases in the US. Stay indoors and wear masks when out in public, coronavirus is highly contagious.

Meh, that’s a little extreme.
Cut off flights from mainland China and reject individuals on other flights who have traveled from mainland prior to arriving here.

It is at 4 percent which is still significant. We aren't talking about some long drawn out process like cancer. At this point there are astronomically higher chances that you are gonna die in Wuhan from this virus than cancer in the next 10 years if you are 50 years old.
You're a little high on that. Current estimates are ~6k in Wuhan are infected and ~132 have died. A story from an hour ago. That's a mortality rate of 2.2% (and that's probably high considering the infection rate).

If this is killing those in care, I hope there aren't bodies in the homes.

I hope that is true, but I just don’t see how that is possible. With as many cases that have spread out, although its not a ton, its still significant.
And to think the 30-40 cases in other countries are from just visitors of the area... There are 11 mil people that live in the city, I don’t see any way it can be only 6k.

They are lying about the numbers to not to create panic. China wouldn't quarantine 50 million people (and rising) if the numbers are that small and the threat is not severe. They are building a hospital in Wuhan that will be completed in 6 days, this is a bigger deal than they want you to believe.
Not to mention you can get the Virus for up to 14 days and not have any symptoms so there are people that have it that don't know it yet, so you could be spreading it and not even know you have it.
There is absolutely zero treatment or cure for this, and it is extremely infectious, yes we should be worried. Until there is a cure this is a major potentially global threat.

Isnt that really misleading since more people have died than recovered? Especially considering all those in critical care?

This thing is so fricking contagious and deadly that an entire 88 people have it outside of China and 0 people have died.
That's it, shut down the fricking border.

Agree... Until there is a death outside of Mainland, in a country with a decent healthcare system, its nothing more than a higher visibility flu.
The scary thing is how many people are running around, infecting others and not knowing it? I doubt we will see a death in the US, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be fearful of the 7k Chinese nationals that flew in for CNY.

You still haven’t told me what we have to risk if we suspend flights from China while learning more about a novel rapidly spreading disease
But keep acting like mr badass. I guarantee if I put you in a room with someone from Wuhan you would be holding your breath

I would suspend flights from China every single time some new virus emerges as a standard procedure
If you want to eat bats and can’t practice basic hygiene then that’s the price you pay. Don’t like it? Start changing your behavior
How many times does this have to happen before they get it

What's to gain being able to travel anywhere? Seriously?

Why the hell would I be worried? The flu has killed more Americans in the past 4 months than this will kill worldwide.
Like I said, how do some of you get through the day? You're exponentially more likely to die from the flu - have you even left the house since October?
