Make businesses responsible for enforcing the 6 feet rule/capacity guidelines and thorough cleaning of doors, touchscreens, etc... Businesses that are capable of letting employees work from home should be encouraged to continue that. No events allowed for over 100 people. Information campaign to encourage washing hands/ not touching face/staying home when sick or known exposure...
At some point at the individual level we have to take responsibility to do everything we can to slow the spread. If we are not responsible enough to do it without shutdown of the economy then we will bear that burden. We can either try to swim or sink ourselves through a prolonged shutdown. At least opening it back up gives us a chance to get through this without a Great Depression.

I think that those are likely. By May 1st, you'll see almost new cases of the virus, and our hospitals will have less than half of the COVID-19 patients that we do now.
That's when test-and-trace becomes so important. But when the virus gets ahead of us in one place and we start to see community spread again, then a two-week local shutdown may be necessary. Test-and-trace isn't, by itself, enough to stop the virus, though warmer weather will help too.
South Korea has been the model of test-and-trace, and they just shut down restaurants in Seoul yesterday, because they have been losing ground.
We just have to be careful not to let this thing get out of control again. Businesses can survive a two-week shutdown, but another six-week shutdown would bankrupt everyone.

There's just no reason for that. There's a good chance we have this thing licked by the end of the month. Zero reason to go beyond the national guidance.

If the latest trends hold we should be able to start gradually reopening things by the end of the month (or possibly sooner). Dumb to extend the SAH to mid-may on April 8.

Double dipping political points.
At the time of the shutdown, they're seen as protecting their citizens beyond what is required (at least by some).
Then when they can end the shutdown ahead of schedule, they're seen as heroes that beat all estimates regarding the virus' impact to their constituents.

Well, our Governor is taking a lot of heat for being a buffoon, having said a few days ago that he was not aware that people could transmit the virus if they had no symptoms and that he had JUST learned that in the last 24 hours. Then his shelter-in-place order somehow opened up beaches and parks that local city councils had already closed because they don't have the manpower to enforce distancing....so the mayor of Tybee Island is looking into legal action. On top of that, his shelter-in-place order was to end on April 13th. He should have simply made it the 30th from the get-go.
He's not really bright.

And a bunch of states will listen to his recommendation, likely see an economic turnaround and little COVID issue if done properly, and the other states will follow suit in quick order.

I worry about this too. We need to hope to see drastic improvement in overall numbers over the next couple of weeks or we may see politicians keeping things the way they are now.

Louisiana numbers for today .. 29 less vents, 13 less hospitalizations, 70 deaths (sadly) which is same as yesterday, 746 "new cases".

I feel good. I have about got this thing whipped. My boss said I can come back to work but he wants a negative test first because the others are worried about catching it and I completely understand. I am sleeping pretty well. Still got a nagging cough but I can breathe so it's all good.
I made the mistake of lighting up a cig yesterday when the wife was smoking. Bad decision but it worked out because I quickly put it because it tasted awful. How did I ever like those things to begin with? Won't be trying that again. I hope she decides to quit soon because frankly, seeing her smoke is getting on my nerves. I am not her boss so I won't demand she quit but I will strongly encourage it every chance I get.
I finally got my pizza too. Ordered domino's last night with extra cheese. I am getting ready to order groceries online and I am going to have them bring healthier food. That pizza was awesome but I can't eat like that anymore. I am a small guy at 155 pounds but that doesn't give me a pass to eat unhealthy. I am gonna be a better steward over the body the good Lord gave me from this point forward.
