The staff here at BMC in Birmingham has been top notch. It has been surreal seeing them walk in here we with n95 masks and sometimes a full face shield but I understand. I asked the nurse about the shape of their icu unit and ventilators etc and she side stepped again saying it was against policy to talk about it but I convinced her to tell me that their unit is around 70% full from what she has heard and they have several intubated covid patients but she didn't know an exact amount.

UAB had been posting their numbers and last time they said they were at 58 hospitalized for covid19.

I know up here in Huntsville, the Huntsville hospital system had 15 patients with 0 on ventilators at this time. But they are waiting on the spike

Italy appears to be over the top as their testing continues to increase and daily new cases have started to decrease.

Apparently Italy some time prior to March 29th had seen enough data to warrant widespread early treatment with hydroxychloroquine, at least in some regions of the country, like Rome.

quote:

Dr. Pier Luigi Bartoletti, Deputy National Secretary of the Italian Federation of General Practitioners, explains that every single person with Covid-19 that has early signs, like a cough or a fever for example, is now being treated with the anti-malaria drug.

The drug “is already giving good results,” Bartoletti says while Malaysia reveals they have been using it since the very beginning. Bartoletti further adds that the drug: “Must be used with all the necessary precautions, it must be evaluated patient by patient. It can have side effects. But those that take it are responding really well.

Meanwhile, in this country we're still drawing up the protocols for some double blind, placebo controlled, fully randomized studies. Which would be bad enough if it was an unknown experimental chemical, but this is a drug that has already been given to hundreds of millions of people worldwide over nearly a century, with an excellent safety record despite some of the hand wringing we continue to hear.

I guess Italy and some other countries need men like Dr Fauci to explain to them how the data on hydroxychloroquine is "not robust" and is only a "suggestion" of efficacy.

China is currently testing vaccines in their political prisons. They will have a mass produced vaccine by July. Most countries will accept the vaccine and get back to normal.

There won't be an approved vaccine in the US for 18 months.

This is how China becomes the world's leading power and we fade away under the weight of partisanism and beuracracy.

I woke up today short of breathe and a nice cough.

frick.

If I got it. It was likely from the ER. Went two days ago with chest pains(ended up having swelling in my esophagus creating tightness) and thought I may he having a heart issue which I've never had.

Praying I dont. With the years of smoking and diabetes this thing scares me. I'm only 33 though.

Watch it closely and if you can find a pulse oximeter to buy or borrow that I would think would be helpful to monitor.

I read somewhere medical people saying to sleep/lay on your stomach to help with coughing/breathing. Just FYI.

New York with 594 reported deaths today, cfr 3.4% (4159/122031)

Per capita deaths at 212 per million people vs. 88 for Louisiana.

China is definitely using this as an opportunity to increase their influence though. They were getting praised for “giving” supplies to Italy and NY.

Hmmm. SO Louisiana isn't the highest. Weren't we told that? I could very well be remembering wrong.

Guess where the flu vaccine you took last fall came from.

Let me clarify. I wouldn’t take a vaccine developed and tested exclusively by China.

Like, they say “this works, try it”

I am more than acutely aware alot, if not most, of our pharmaceuticals come from China.

My point exactly. We are realistically not going to have a vaccine until next January or February.

China will be distributing their vaccine to middle eastern, African, South American, and South East Asian countries by July all in turn for deals that weaken the US.

China started this but will come out as the hero for 6 of the world's 7 billion people. The narrative that US soldiers brought this to Wuhan is alive and well in the developing world.

The US needs a better plan than stay home for 9 months.

Stay at home for a month while we fast track treatment development and have the Army Corps build Covid hospitals in each of the top 100 metro areas.

Outside of CCP propaganda, there is little reason to think that China will have a functioning vaccine in July. In fact, don't be surprised if news from global vaccine efforts is mostly bad in the coming months. Vaccines for other coronaviruses have been difficult to figure out and people should temper expectations on how fast a functioning vaccine will show up for mass production.

New numbers are in from Italy and new cases and deaths are both down again Overall, trends across Europe appear to be improving.

China's influence via U.S. based corporations, who in turn buy congressmen of both parties, is already widespread. This is a drop in the bucket compared to the corruption that is systemic in our political system.
