Corn is already at 20 year lows
Just a casual observation but a sack of cracked corn at Tractor Supply is 13.00.
This past winter a sack of unwashed whole corn was 11.00 at cheapest.
20 years ago is was 6.00.
So if I wanted to feed out a pig or calf not to mention 4 sacks a week August-Jan for deer hunting, why am I paying double?

We only grow that amount of corn for shite like hfcs. I don't even know the last time I ate corn. It gets stuck in my teeth, and I don't digest it well.
I would guess that you eat something containing corn almost every single day. The biggest market for corn in my area is for chicken feed.

Ethanol mandates contributed to the struggles of the catfish industry
Feed was 200-250 a ton then started skyrocketing as grain prices went up.
I’d be fine with eliminating ethanol. Get grain prices down so we can profit at a lower fish price and compete with imports. To help farmers, go after the BigAg monopolies that rape farmers on input costs of chemicals, equipment and service, and seeds. Allow farmers to hold grain to use as seed for the next season. I understand the seed companies research is expensive and they trademark the varieties but maybe allow farmers to pay the seed company a usage fee if they hold grain over for themselves. Allow a farmer to hold up to 50% of his seed needs from the previous crop. There has to be a way to reduce costs and make farming profitable at lower grain prices

but it would be nice to see some of that land return to grasslands and be ranched which in turn helps more species as their “natural” habitat returns.
It’s devastated the pheasant population

There’s so much uncertainty with the tariff flip flops that other countries are looking for more stable trade deals. Plus doing away with foreign aid hurts the farmers as well. Plus cutting back on food programs hurts farmers and meat industries as well.
The lack of farm labor is huge blow. I’m concerned that this is going to be a huge blow to our food chain.

I’ll take your word for it. I purged organic 1 & 2 from my brain shortly after their finals.

Their entire industry is built on subsidies. If that is what your livelihood requires, it is not a good or sustainable business model.

This. America owes much of our farmland to ruminants building soil, and we are rapidly destroying the topsoil.

We have to subsidize consolidated industrial agriculture so that we can export output to other countries and drive up prices on domestic consumers!

It was the combination of corn subsidies and NAFTA that started the mass illegal immigration issue. The US subsidized corn is sold in Mexico cheaper than Mexican farmers can grow it putting most small farms out of business.
NAFTA fricked the middle class and domestic manufacturing, and never should have been allowed,

Sugar beets. Sugar beets are grown in Wyoming. Even a processing plant there.
Also in Colorado. Probably could be easily grown in corn producing states.
The University of Nebraska can change their mascot to Sugar Beet Defoliaters.

It would help if the cotton industry came back. All these corn acres in the South used to be cotton and everyone was happy.
