Time to file suit on her personally

Likely will as Uninsured Motorist only covers injury in LA. I’m now out of pocket on my collision deductible.
But I’ll honest, she was the caliber of human that likely will not show up to small claims court and then never pay out and it won’t effect her anyway. She smelled like straight weed and claimed to have just been diagnosed with cancer and was distracted. I’m glad I called the cops for the report but obvious now they are useless anyway.

I am not usually a big government guy and dont know if I would support this but I can envision a time where newer cars could be disabled due to lack of insurance. Sorta like how OnStar can disable a stolen car.

Lots of bad ways that could go but I could see it happening. If you use your car on a public road (who doesnt) and your insurance lapses your car wont start.

AGAIN I dont know if I would support such a law but it might get some of the uninsured off the roads.

Id support after first offense.

I see a bad pattern in here.

UMPD can be pretty restrictive; usually requires an independent witness if there’s not direct contact with the other vehicle. In some states a deductible applies. Some states have UMPD available even when Collision coverage is carried. (I don’t think Louisiana is one of them).

Got in a wreck on I-55.. girl ran into the back of me and bumped me off into the grass median on a slick interstate where others in front of me had slowed down

They hauled her little arse off to jail although I guess she had a warrant out as well in addition she had no insurance of course . And her car was totaled. She had a rough day

Yep. I know of 2 databases that verify insurance status in real time.

I see this all the time.
If the driver has a valid insurance card, that satisfies the cop. What happens is that the driver will buy insurance and get a card that shows that it is good for 6 to 12 months. Then they will quit paying the premiums after a month or so and the insurance company will cancel the policy. The cops have no way of knowing this.

With all of the technology available these days, you would think that this information could be verified.

LEO just takes the information from the insurance card to put on the accident report. They're not doing an investigation into the driver having legit insurance.

They can check in real time if they have insurance if they have an MDT in their vehicle. Running a plate queries the DMV database for insurance.

Insurance companies are required to report to the DMV is someone’s policy is canceled.

File suit and make the General prove they canceled the policy correctly. Sometimes they don’t.

The cop said "Well, I guess I can let that go" but I told him I had the Progressive app and had the updated card on there. He told me I needed to physically have it on me and I picked up my phone, opened the app, pulled up the ID and said "I do". He just looked at me and walked back to his car.
You would think showing active insurance on a phone app suffices more than a piece of paper, but I dont get to make the rules.

. This is an avenue you can take with an accident with injuries. But if you have collision coverage this isn’t worth the hassle at all. You are basically hoping for a long shot. Then when you lose you are out a bunch of time and filing fees.

Also, these “low cost” insurance companies like General and Go Auto know they deal with people every day that aren’t going to pay them. They are very good at making sure everything is canceled correctly. Surprisingly you actually have a better chance at this strategy against one of the major carriers although it’s still slim.

Aren’t police supposed to run and verify car insurance after a car accident as part of the report?
Some bitch rear ended me and the report showed she had valid insurance but now the insurance company is saying she didn’t have coverage at the time. Of course it’s The General.

this happened to me

i even told the cop that the insurance company on his card was fake because i had that insurance and they went out of business, cop said we are required to get a card, not verify if its accurate or fake.

your own insurance pays for it all unless you removed the uninsured coverage from it. if you did that then you are SOL

Because it makes their jobs easier. I had to pay for some random 3 day lapse a year previous when I last went to get my expired license updated. I guess some billing dates got screwed up but they weren’t going to renew my license without me paying

I had the exact same thing happen to me this year. I mean the exact thing. It was a pain.

I have uninsured insurance but in the lovely state of Louisiana it only covers injuries if you already carry Collision. I do so now I’m SOL and paying the deductible and out of pocket.
Sure, I could file a small claims court case for the $500 but she’s broke AF and it wouldn’t even teach her a lesson.

Cop asks for ID and Insurance. Illegal has none. Cop lets the illegal leave. UNREAL.

All cops can do in this situation is issue tickets to someone without any identification who will never pay it, and then impound their car which was probably already totaled. Nobody wins except the illegal.

I got rear ended this past February. I was stopped on a 2 lane in town waiting for the driver in front of me to turn left after oncoming traffic went by.

Boom, dude in a old arse SUV hit me. I was sitting still. He wasn't paying attention, probably looking at his phone. Actually saw him swerving around on the interstate 3 mins before when I passed him.

Called the police. Took 45 mins for an officer to arrive. Said they no longer do police reports. Now they just do information exchanges with the drivers.

I have USAA. I got to work after all this. Called USAA and told them what happened..

Long story, short. Took forever to get my car repaired. The other driver never called his insurance company (he actually had insurance. The previous two people to hit me didn't... so I have to pay for uninsured driver insurance). USAA contacted the other driver's ins company..

USAA pays for my repairs and then would seek the money from the other company. I received a letter in the mail from the other driver's insurance company saying they declined the payment due to there being no police report.

Yeah, that's the bullshite we get to deal with sometimes. Made me wanna punch somebody.. Shitty people get shitty insurance I guess.

Not sure what’s funny but yeah they do. Last two times I was pulled over I searched for my insurance card and the cop said don’t worry about it. Said he’d run it. Maybe different in other states but I doubt it.
