Do you...

UPVOTE: Comply/Answer questions cordially?
DOWNVOTE: Act like an a-hole/refuse to answer and/or fight the cops?

Is it an a-hole thing to do now when asking why he's engaging me?

Whenever they show up at my house I tell them "I don't really want to talk because I might accidentally mention my rape dungeon." Then we all have a good laugh and I am secretly thankful I remembered to leave the gag in.

It depends on the sityeeashun, I guess.

However, the downvote option usually ends badly.

But what if you live across the street from sonic..and everybody is watching.

All the baws are giving a good stare, sipping route 44s, and revving their engines..

Then he has something to hide and he's definitely going with the downvote option.

Opening the door allows them to say that they thought they smelled pot. They are in if they want to be then.

Everything depends on the nature of the questions they are asking.

If there was middle button I'd press it --- why should I expect respect and a cordial greeting to someone that doesn't have the decency to show it back to me (in real life I'm being as nice as possible.)

Cops work for me. I pay their salary. It's call
Protect and serve, not detain and jail. I'd get a lawyer and documents any mistreatment

You dont have to act like an a-hole to not answer questions but the first words out of your mouth should always be, "Am I being detained?" If you are then you are legally required to only answer one question. "What is your name?" And thats all you should answer. Ever. Ask any lawyer worth his salt. If they detain you without probable cause and you have the time and money, please, for the sake of your fellow Louisianian, take it to court. My experience here has informed me that LEOs in LA need to be chin-checked in court to correct this police state behavior.

Contrary to all the fluffy shite they fed us as children, cops are there for one reason and one reason only. To make arrests and write tickets. They dont get promotions based on how many times they smile and make eye contact with you, how many hands they shake, how many cats they rescue from trees, how many hitchhikers they lift safely to their destination or how many old ladies they help across the street. All those things would make them good cops but, unfortunately, those actions dont make them successful cops.

They tell you right there when they arrest you, "Anything you say CAN and WILL BE used against you in a court of law." to bury your arse.

This shite is pretty cut and dry. But hey, if you still dont believe me just ask this really smart guy....

I'm not aware of any reason why the police would think I might be up to no good. So I'd expect to hear questions along the lines of "tell me about your neighbor" and I'd have no problems answering them.

If the questions are more along the lines of "what were you doing on such-and-such day" or "mind if we take a look in your bathroom" I'll first ask why they're interested but will politely decline. I'm well aware that sometimes (not always) people find what they want to find.

For example, suppose my recent ex was found stabbed to death at a local park. The police quite naturally would want to contact me. And let's say I cut up some steak last night and hadn't bothered to clean the knife. Sure, lab results will probably confirm her blood wasn't on it but at the very least I will have attracted further unwanted attention. And false positives from the lab have been known to happen.
