I've spoken and had discussions with quite a few law enforcement people.

From those discussions, I'd say the ratios of their views on drugs are approximately:

80-90% for weed. Most don't care if someone smokes, and hate having to bust people for it. Prison guards actually wish they could give it to prisoners so they'd be more sedate. All prison guards hate mojo.

Around 70% don't care about cocaine. Again, this is from their mouths.

0% tolerate heroin. Most say that is the only drug they truly hate. A heroin dealer will receive their full wrath. Pill pushers fall in this category.

0% tolerate meth. According to one: "turn on the local news, and you'll see why it's our bane."

So where do y'all fall in with these drugs? Does the above seem accurate?

Should weed and cocaine be legal or penalties at least lessened?

I’m not a cop but I’ve been pulled over by one so maybe I can give a little insight. It’s largely a failure but we keep it going because it’s still a fantastic way of securing funding for police departments across the country.

This is true.

But I'm just trying to get opinions on different drugs, and not on the policy or law around them. Somewhat.

I think most think marijuana should be legal.

Most have done coke but don’t think it should be legal.

All think heroine and meth should remain illegal.

The war on drugs has been a collosal failure and has cost us billions if not trillions of dollars with little benefit. End it.

Legalize all of it.

Also make every state a stand your ground state.

Mandatory drug tests for anyone on a form of government welfare. (Everything from Pell grants/tops to housing assistance/food stamps)

Also drug test those seeking medical treatment, failed drug tests results in ineligible for medicare.

If people want to do drugs they're going to have to forgo any government assistance.

Agreed. Been a cop for 20 years. Though your weed percentage may he correct I cant say I agree with the cocaine percentage. I hate heroin and meth, just lost one to heroin last week. Synthetic is ridiculous, those people are on another level, just smoke weed for christ sake.

Honestly all drugs should be illegal but regular people shouldn't have to go to jail for using them. If criminals use them, yes, they should face the full force of the law

If they hate it so much then why bust them for it?

But if it's legal, what's the problem?

It’s also their job to write tickets for everyone who speeds, runs lights/stop signs, or doesn’t wear a seat belt. Yet many just give warnings

Is it the use of a drug, or what people do to obtain it?

Criminalize criminal behavior.

Most cops, prosecutors, and judges that I’ve spoken to about the subject would support weed legalization. The other drugs? Not so much. Esp heroin and crack.
