That's how it's supposed to be done, especially on standard residential doors. If you self-breach correctly, blasting that door open is about as startling as a banger, giving you a good second of delayed reaction time in which to get rounds on target.
I've done it with someone inside, ready and waiting, weapon pointed at the door. They still recoiled/flinched and never got a shot off.
