It’s not the power of the ecoboost that’s concerning. It has plenty power that’s only outmatched by the big Chevy 6.0. It’s the longevity. I read so many horror stories online that I went with a V8.

Ford EcoTec V6 > piece of shite 4.6/5.4 V8 they used to use. That is fact.

And as far as longevity goes, that's just silly even with the barest of maintenance almost every new car on the market will get you 100K miles without any major repair bills.

And FYI, that price on the truck you’re looking at is in line with the houston dealerships I shopped a few months ago. $34-37k is about the range for the XLT. Power-wise, any F150 engine will be fine if you aren’t towing much. Frankly, truck engines are so absurdly powerful nowadays compared to 15 years ago that even a 300hp V6 is now considered wimpy, which is crazy. I loved the F150’s features and drive feel. It’s the best truck out there.

My dad has a 2011 f150 Ecoboost. He has somewhere north of 150k on it. Never had any turbo/engine issues

Yes, esp in terms of power. My concern was the longevity compared to the current 5.0 V8. And they may be fine but I just read too many bad reviews, on the OT and elsewhere, to buy one.

I agree with this for the most part but seems like the ecoboost have an inordinate amount of problems.

You guys think the 2.7L V6 is enough power to RARELY tow something small (trailer, aluminum boat)?

The 2.7 will run and it tows 7500 lbs which is more than most will need.

quote:

The 2.7 hustles this truck to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 14.3. That’s 0.1 second slower to 60 and 0.1 second quicker in the quarter than the 365-hp 3.5-liter turbo V-6 that won the comparo

That's not a crew cab but it's just as quick as the 3.5 eb. Just less torque and towing. I test drove one and aside from the sound you'd think that it's a smaller V8.

Why a midsize when they are 90% the cost of a full size?

Because he doesn't want a full size?

Now that I don't pull a camper anymore, I am looking to get out of my Sierra. Test drove a Canyon and was pretty impressed. If I find the right long box model with leather, I'm done with full sized trucks.

Why do they not discount the Chevrolet Colorado?

These were 2017's ... salesmen all claimed that there was too much demand to warrant any discounts. They were offering 0% for 60 months, but it was based on the MSRP. Otherwise they were offering ~$2k off MSRP. Multiple dealerships in the area pulled the same crap. Got fed up and bought the Tacoma.

I have a 2013 f150 ecoboost and have not had one problem. Before that I had a Nissian Frontier, loved that truck but wanted something bigger.

Midsize are more functional in the city. For me I opt out of a full size and went with a Tacoma because I live uptown where every street is tight and jacked up.

Fwiw, a Tacoma is pretty much a 4 runner with a bed. Having 2 kids in car seats, there is not much room in the cab but def. doable if need be.

I don’t understand this board’s slavish devotion to Ford.

For me the interior sucks compared to GM. Not only are some of the ‘silver’ plastic surfaces incredibly cheap feeling but some of the the things they do for style in the cabin don’t work for me at all.

Or I am just a GMC guy I guess.

The 4.6 2V engine is probably the most reliable engine Ford has produced in the last 27 years and had a good run from 1990-2014. Change the oil regularly and the engine will outlast the body, suspension, and interior.

I don’t either. I checked them out when I was shopping mainly because of the OT, and I didn’t get it.

I’m probably trashy.

Won’t win any races but did the job.

At this point, I've narrowed my search down to all 2017 XLT's at dealerships within 100 miles of Sulphur.

I know nothing about the XLT’s but I know the 18 month old 2016 Colorado 4 door fully loaded sitting in my garage is trash. I don’t even drive it much because the interior went to crap after 6ish months of light driving and the electronics are absolute shite. They go out when I hit bumps, I have already been thru 2 batteries in less than 10k miles and I shite you not for the last 6 weeks when I try to turn it off the the key won’t come out of the ignition unless I wait 5-10 minutes after the engine is turned off. EVERY. frickING. TIME. It was fun to dick around in the first 6 months ago but now it just sits unless I need to use it.

I think the XLT is plenty enough features for a truck.

I recently got the XLT. I looked at the Lariat and thought about it but at the end of the day a loaded XLT just made more sense from the economic standpoint. Basically got everything I would have wanted on the Lariat except the air conditioned front seats for a good bit less. I really liked the a/c seats though. Would've likely gotten arrested for driving around with no pants on in the summer time so probably for the best I didn't get those.
