Even the V8 is preference. The EcoBoost 3.5 V6 has 375 HP and 470 ft lbs of torque. VERY few people would need more performance than than out of a truck.

OP I have a Tacoma. It's been an excellent vehicle for 2.5 years. Not a single issue to speak of. GM twins seem to be fine, nice resale as well although not as good.
However, I have a one year old, and will likely have another kid in next year or so. He just moved to a bigger seat and it take up a ton Of space, especially rear facing, it takes away from passenger leg room. With 2 seats, it will almost assuredly take away from driver leg room. I am a bit over 6 feet, and drive pretty close to the wheel.
Even if you are ok sacrificing leg room, you are left with zero storage. Those under seat storage areas aren't worth much with baby seats always there.
I love my truck, but will sadly likely need to say goodbye to it in the next year or so. However we did just buy a highlander, so anytime we go somewhere as a family we use that vehicle, so I might be able to get a at with it.
Good luck with your decision.

I was looking at a mid sized as well a few months ago. I wanted a full sized truck but I didnt want to drop 50k just yet on the one I wanted. The Tacoma and Colorado lack any sort of power and towing capacity. If you dont need the space or the towing capacity, then they are fine. However, if you think you will need either in the next 6-8 years, get a Full Size. I know you said you arent worried about resale, but 8 years down the road the Tacoma will still be worth double what the Canyon is. Most GM products are junk IMO.

Wtodd, Have you told your parents that you're ghey? Grammar policing message boards is a dead give away...just wanted you to be aware.

I have a '17 Taco SR5 with the double cab and extended bed. I love the shite out of it. I test drove both the Colorado and the Tacoma, and I liked both, but the reputation of both companies came in to play and I went Tacoma.
I also don't have kids or a need for a full-size.

2 car seats are really tight in the back of a Tacoma, but I’d rather drive a taco over a Colorado.
My car seats fit just fine in the back of my Tacoma.

I'm not going to convince you not to buy a Colorado.
You're the one that's gonna feel like the dumbass.

Then don't buy a Colorado. We have a bunch at work. They are piles of shite. After about six months the interior goes to shite. Then electronics. Then that fricking door alarm. You have to slam the door so hard to get the fucjing think to stop.
You ever change the starter out in one of the bastards?

That's what the manufacturer calls it, dipshit.

I remember years ago my father bought me an S-10 new the day he bought a new Silverado.
The S-10s went out of production, as I suspect the Colorado will.
Too bad you're not considering the Silverado.

It’s not the power of the ecoboost that’s concerning. It has plenty power that’s only outmatched by the big Chevy 6.0. It’s the longevity. I read so many horror stories online that I went with a V8.
If Chevy would put that 6.0 in their power model trucks, I’d be driving a Chevy today. That’s a sweet engine.

Toyota Tacoma > Chevy Colorado

You guys think the 2.7L V6 is enough power to RARELY tow something small (trailer, aluminum boat)?
One I'm looking at

Yup. Just bought an f150 and have two car seats as well. TONS of space.
I opted for the XLT sport.
I considered the midsize, but everyone I talked to said that most people that buy midsize say they wish they would have bought a fullsize within a few weeks.
FWIW: I opted for the sport because I wanted that center console. I didn't really care for the bench seat.

Easily, but I wouldn’t buy it. I just don’t trust the turbo V6s to last long enough. Plus if you’re going with the ecoboost, is it that much more money for the 3.5?

I seriously considered the XL or XLT Sport with the V8. They look good.

At this point, I've narrowed my search down to all 2017 XLT's at dealerships within 100 miles of Sulphur.
Looks like I could scoop up a good deal on a 2017 and I'm just not that concerned about the engine size for what I'll use it for. I know, just get a car - not happening.
