Because I have a 1989 Silverado 4x4.

My first vehicle was a single cab 1989 Silverado. Way roomier inside than a Taco. I now drive a Tundra. Aside from the four door crew cab, the Tundra isn’t appreciably larger inside than my old Silverado or my dads 2002 Silverado or my 1999 F150. Those are all full size trucks. Taco is not.

The other small pickups are objectively better in almost every measurable way.

And I'd still buy the Tacoma. I'm going to hold out for the 2020 model. The knock on the Tacoma is that it is uncomfortable. 2020 comes with a 6 (8?) way power adjustable seat that's supposed to make it more tolerable. Plus Android Auto (and Carplay). Worth the wait for me over the 2019.

I kinda want a base model honestly. Rock solid I4. I don't like the glued-on fender flares. And the ones with the fake hood scoops are douchey.

I had a 1995.5 Tacoma--the first one they ever called a "Tacoma." Before it was just the Toyota pickup. Five speed, 4WD, manual locking hubs. I miss it.

Just bought a 2018 myself. I have zero need for a full sized truck so there really is no reason to get one for me at least. Couldn’t be happier with it

I have a 2016 SR5 that has served me well thus far. Comfortable ride and plenty of room for a family of 4 for camping trips and cub scout events.

I see them for sale and people ask retarded amounts for them. I get that they hold their value ,but some ole baw was asking 12K for a 2002 Tacoma. My dad has one ,but honestly I do not get the appeal of them.

I’m not a new car guy, so I started looking on used lots, but quickly realized how dumb that is. A 2016 TRD Off Road (the trim I want) with 45K miles can be had for $29k - $32k Whereas a new 2019 can be had for $35k - $38k. It just seems foolish to buy used if you’re looking for a 3rd generation Tacoma.

Over 30K for a mid size, that is just retarded... Again I don't get why they are so expensive.

Sadly, they’re a pretty good value for a brand new pickup in the $30k range.

A comparable GMC Sierra (full size, I know), which was my 2nd choice, goes for close to $50k new. And is worth $26k after 3 years and 45k miles. A depreciation of $0.53 per mile. Even a used ‘16 Sierra with 45k miles at $26k would depreciate at around $0.18 per mile over the same time & mileage.

That I can still get $29k out of the $35k initial price after that same 3yrs & 45k miles (a $0.13 depreciation per mile) is a big deal to me. AND Tacomas seem to lower that depreciation rate significantly as they age beyond 100k miles.
This used Tacoma market may be driven partly by the fact there aren’t as many used Tacomas available and/or that folks don’t flinch at a Tacoma with 100k miles.

I can’t put my finger on the exact reason, but I might as well jump onboard.

2008 Tacoma owner. Not a fan of those colors. Mine is the Indigo Ink color. Great truck with 110K and absolutely zero issues.

Eli, you are making the correct decision.

I’ve seen the grey and tan in person, grey looks inifiinitly better. And I don’t like that blue

Here is the problem with your statement, you are applying your situation to everyone else. While I agree that f250s can be more capable to some, that doesn't mean they are more capable to all.

I traded in a 2010 f250 for a 2015 Tacoma. My f250 was roomier, had more comfortable seats, and could tow more. But I have 2 kids and it was almost impossible to go anywhere around town and park that big of a truck and be able to get both kids out. Couple that with the fact that I never tow more than 1500lbs and that my Tacoma is significantly better off road where I duck hunt, and it was an easy decision for me. My Tacoma is definitely more capable, easier to drive, and gets better mileage that my f250 did. Also add in that maintenance costs are significantly cheaper also.

Now, I loved my f250, and if I lived in a more rural area, and towed 10,000 lbs frequently, then I agree that it would be more capable in that situation. But for every poster that comes in thinking that full size trucks are better just because they are bigger, well that doesn't work for everyone.

Quicksand or White. This is a small truck that goes hunting in the woods and gets scratched. Not a mall crawler for door dings from a Buirck.

Room, comfort, power, technology.

The Tacoma formula is tried and true. I'd pick the Taco v6 over the turbo 4 in the Ranger--but the stats don't lie--the turbo engine has more power/torque.

The colorado/ranger will have bigger more comfortable cabs and seating positions. The Taco still has the legs way out in front, seat close to the floor position it's always had.

Point is you buy a Taco/4Runner precisely because they are a little dated--they've been making these things the same way for years and they are stone dead reliable.

Helped buy my nephew this exact truck. Or at least it’s pretty danged close.

His has a Toyota bed cover. TRD exhaust, and rock climber steps.
