Agreed. As a CM with a major oil and gas company in New York with 16 years of experience, an MBA and a PMP I am calling bullshite on the inflated numbers people are claiming in here. I was just having a disussion with a friend today about how all these companies want to pay 80-110k and the really high paying roles are few and far between. In fact, you can probably get paid more as a project controls manager, rather than a construction manager.

Why would a company pay that with zero experience?

Not sure.

Then his salary is 70K. Per diem isn't salary. You have to spend that money to live in a place that's not your home, unless you are gaming the system, then that is called fraud. OT isn't salary. You're only hurting yourself when you start believing per diem and OT are salary. It's like a huge trap, because you can't get used to living on an income that is really more than you are worth.

Only suckers spend their per diem on actual living expenses.

I am as guilty as the next guy of falling into that trap. At some point you have to grow up and face reality. You're not going to get per diem on every job, and it's not part of your pay.

If you have friends or kids considering whether to major in CM or civil engineering, show them this thread. To back up the guy in thread claiming field engineers can make bank, I'm a civil guy making $75k one year removed from school in a field engineer position. Paid hourly and only working 40 hours a week. I could easily bank six figures if OT ever kicked in.

I never said salary was $150k, I said some are making that amount straight out of college when you add everything up. I would even call BS if someone said they made $150k salary straight out of college. The point being, OP needs to find a new job ASAP because he's getting paid shite.

I agree. Two of the CM graduates I work with bought new toys within a year of graduating. One a new $80k truck and the other a boat.

I realize it takes a lot to fall into place for all of this to happen and it's not your avg CM grad, but as I stated, some do make that straight out of college. I can think of 3 people on my current project that were fortunate enough to have this happen to them.

what industry?

do you mind describing the type of project?

does it require travel/extended time away from home?

Who wants to work every day, out of town, and in a shite hole? He's probably working nights too. F that.

I'll take my $140K 5 days a week and sleep in my bed every night. 2011 LSU CM.

Id imagine I do a million or so a year in side projects. On average from that I probably make about what you do, plus my regular book of business. That is with no other hands in the pot.

You may need a bigger outfit to make more $. 3-5M is nothing. The BR market has plenty of opportunities to easily do 3x that if you want it. It just depends if your outfit wants it or not.

5/10s...not everyday, zero nights. All of our employees that are on assignment out of the Baton Rouge office sleep in their own bed every night.

If you are doing all of those responsibilities and getting paid that little you should just go open you own construction co.

Honestly, the salary/truck allowance & bonus is not too far off for your experience level. However, you're getting screwed with no health insurance or 401k. That's worth another $15k-$20k in salary to compensate for that.
