If you wanna hitch your wagon to an institution that claims the pope is infallible despite being a human then go for it.

Might wanna know that one those popes recently stated that humans are innately good, contradicting the entire need of Jesus’s sacrifice for our redemption from original sin.

His successor also blessed a literal block of ice in the name of climate change.

I would read up on Dr. Scott Hahn (Wikipedia or similar), and read a book of his. I suggest the Fourth Cup.

Protestant for 37 years. No one did anything. Grew up in the “Bible Belt”. Protestantism is one of the biggest lies perpetrated on human kind. Was always taught the Catholics were the boogeyman. One day I decided to start reading on the history of my faith. Early church fathers, desert fathers, manuscripts, summa theologa. There is no one that could read all of this and come out of the other side a non Catholic. I had a solid Bible foundation, salvation is Jesus Christ alone. Now I have the TRUE Church. Martin Luther was a maniac. Yes there were abuses going on but it could have been dealt with. Read what else made him remove Bible books, specific verses Calvin fought him on to keep amongst other things. My life is better. My family is better. God is good. Contact me anytime.

The Catholic Church is Jesus’ church. There is only one.

Read Rome to Home by Scott Hahn and his wife. I think that will help you.

I find it hilarious that any thinking person would join an organization that purposely hide child molestation.
Like, it wasn’t “here or there”. It was wide spread.
And well documented.

Also, a church with a history of indulgences.

I’m thinking if you could magically ask Jesus his opinion of modern churches, especially Catholics, you would be surprised by his disgust.

Look, I'll say it. I love my Protestant brothers and sisters. No matter what, they are still Christian. They are still close to me as a Catholic and close to the truth.

But the fact that this is still a belief and an "argument" to this day makes it really difficult to take anything they say seriously.

We have explained this thing ad nauseum, and they still repeat it. Its ridiculous.

I feel you.

I was reared as a Southern Methodist. Even as a child the only thing about it that stirred me was the old Protestant hymns. So I just stopped going.

In my early 30s I started going to church with a friend and some other renegade Episcopalians who used the 1928 Book of Common Prayer and things like that. I also started reading and studying.

After about seven years of learning all I could I came to the conclusion that the Catholic Church is the only true religion so I started attending regularly and signed up for an RCIA class.

I understand the family dynamics. My grandmother was a staunch Southern Baptist. My parents were doing the only thing they knew. It is hard to do but you have to dismiss what your family says and does. Go where you are led.

I can honestly say that I have never met any Protestant who can tell you what they believe other than it is not Catholic. And every Protestant I have ever known who commented on the Catholic Church was wrong 100 percent of the time.

My advice to you would be to schedule a face to face meeting with a priest. He can answer some of your questions but to get a comprehensive understanding of Catholicism you need to attend an RCIA class.

I used to refer to myself as a convert but not anymore. I read something that was spot on. A Christian who leaves a Protestant church and joins a Catholic church is not a convert. A convert would be a Christian who became a Jew, Muslim, or some other non-Christian religion. Leaving a Protestant church for the Catholic Church is not a conversion. It is a completion.

Becoming a Catholic is the one thing I have done in my life that I know with absolute certainty was the right thing to do.

Please come home for the first time. And I will say a prayer for you.

All that aside and in good-faith discussions, I believe anything that brings anyone to know and accept Jesus as your Savior is a good thing and should be celebrated. Best of wishes to all in 2026 and may God and Jesus bless and protect you.

It’s you can either read the Bible and make decisions for yourself (Protestantism) or your told by the pope what to believe and do (Catholicism). Just different types of people I guess

Yes. Wife went back to her catholic roots about 12 years ago. I was 32-33 then. I got into it and nearly converted. Family was the same as yours. Devout Protestant. Despised Catholicism. Around the time I started to think about it my son was in catholic school and was about to go to a catholic high school. Two things occurred. One, a friend of mine was in active conversations with the New Orleans archdiocese about a priest at the high school attempting an inappropriate relationship with her son. The church and school allowed this to continue until during some sort of intervention the priest admitted to a long ago elicit relationship with a student. The law got involved and he was arrested. The other event was the principal at the school blowing off a planned meeting with another friend of mine about his son wanting to change a class.

The thing with the priest just showed me that the church is more interested in protecting their assets than being serious about kid diddling. So I just moved away from that idea.

Your experience might be different and I wish you all the best in your decision.

Your friend may have mentioned this, but OCIA has a period at the beginning called Inquiry. The entire point of it is to ask your questions and discern if you want to move forward with full communion in the Catholic Church. Plenty of people come and go in that portion. I’d suggest you start there for sure.

Some members of my family are southern Baptist. Some are more accepting than others. But in the end, it’s hard for them to argue with the point that you worship the same God, and that driving apart people who believe in the same God and causing them to fight with each other sounds like exactly what the devil would do.

[quote] Take solace in the fact that Catholics were the Christians[quote] Newsflash, Christians were already practicing when Constantine became a believer and started the church. Know why they call it a mass? Because it was a service made for the masses. The emperor became a Christian so everyone had to be a Christian. That’s where the catholic church came from. It’s the Roman government.

Follow your heart. Jesus will show you the way. We don't worship Mary. We adore her. Non Catholics use that argument to justify why they don't follow the true church. The Catholic Church was started by Jesus Christ. The other 40,000 denominations throughout the world were started by man.

The next time you are at a relative’s house, one of those who say Catholics worship Mary, find a photo or painting of a relative hanging on their wall and ask them why they worship that person. They will say they don't, they just adore them and want to remember them. Well the same thing with Catholics regarding Mary.

Exactly. Jesus came to start a church but it took 1,800 years for literacy rates to reach above 50%, so he didn’t want all those people who couldn’t read and decide for themselves to know him.

OR he came to establish a visible Church that is one, truly, catholic and apostolic to guide the nations.

Let pride make every man his own authority.

From Judas until the end of time there will be sinners in the Church.

Holy catholic church yes. Not Roman Catholic Church.

Wildest thing I’ve ever heard someone say is “we’re not Christian, we’re Catholic.”
