Apparently the guy walked into the gift shop with a coke bottle in his pocket.

They interviewed the guy. His daughter was on the 6th floor in pediatrics and was due to be discharged at 10am. He was holding a coke bottle under a jacket or something and went to the gift shop to buy his daughter some candy and a stuffed animal, clerk thought he had a gun, called police, and refused to sell him anything. So he left and went up to his daughters room...next think you know swat is there and the place is on lockdown.
