I actually wasn’t confirmed until I was 28 bc I didn’t feel my Faith was strong enough as a teen to take that step.

My oldest son just got confirmed at 24.

It’s not a right of passage or anything like that. It’s fortifying the gifts of the Holy Spirit given to us by the sacrament of baptism. The idea of moving it to a younger person is to share those graces with them as soon as possible.

To the guy who mentioned Lake Charles; our bishop doesn’t want to make this big of a change until the new bishop is named. He reached the age of retirement last year.

My 10th grader just wrapped up classes. How can he get confirmed without having to do classes again next year?

Honestly, I had much more respect for the sacrament going into it as an informed choice instead of just because it was time to do it according to a schedule.

Then why do we wait at all? Why not just do confirmation right at first communion?

Glad for it. Grab em early.

Makes absolutely no difference. One thing that does make a difference in a child's faith is how active the father. Even how much he sings.

Some dioceses do exactly that.

I’m not ok with this. I feel like 7th is too young to truly understand what confirmation and being a Catholic truly means.

I was confirmed in the 4th grade. There really is not a good reason to wait until 11th grade.

I know. But why do some (or most?) wait til 8th or 11th grade? I don't believe those Churches just picked a random age and said "yeah, let's do confirmation then."

To my fellow Catholic Baton Rougeans with kids. Recently Bishop Duca has decided to move confirmation from 11th grade to 7th.

11th grade is too late. It was the 8th grade for us.

From a Biblical perspective, what is the purpose of confirmation and where is it explained in the Bible?
