This isn't an issue of boaters going to close to a restricted area.

Air products scheduled their required "demo" last minute on a rainy Monday afternoon. Before they left the marina to see the demo, the police asked all the residents to leave their guns in the truck for everyone's safety.

When people actually showed up for the demo on the water, the security guard showed up guns drawn.

The whole deal just has people really worried that they are going to lose their use of the lake overtime due to airproducts potentially finding other uses for the mineral rights. If you read into this story at all, it screams dirty LA politics and has JBE all over it.

think more of less the issue here is they were invited out there by the contractor and were not expecting to see that.

I understand that. But it’s doesn’t appear as tho they were harassed or threatened. Seems more like a misunderstanding and not worthy of a news story. I don’t see the big deal. Must’ve been a slow news day.

Yup, I think people are trying to get the story in the news as much as possible since no one is addressing their concerns.

I dont know enough about what they are doing to say either way.

I do think they have valid concerns since they live there.

So the rubberneckers were too close to a prohibited zone and they were asked to move? No shots fired? No “motherfrickers” hurled at them? And they’re bitching?

They should go run up on a baws crab traps or trot lines and they’ll receive some or all of the above actions

yes, I'm sure the "Boyz" are opposed to industrial development in the area. I understand that and am somewhat empathetic. But seems like someone is embellishing here.

have always found it quite odd that police can moonlight as security.

We hired 2 off duty deputy sheriffs to do security at our wedding reception. Basically just to direct traffic and parking and there just in case someone drank too much and got out of hand

Are we going to clutch pearls every time we see armed security?

armed guard on a boat keeping people out of an unsafe area? National news.

People just have to choose what they think is important and go with it.

Carbon capture projects are coming to the world. I think carbon capture is stupid, but if they are slinging money and creating an industry, I hope it comes here. We can’t survive on welfare, the prop stop, and personal injury lawyers.

A lot of these people complaining, have made their living off of the plants or oil and gas industry in the state. They never complained about the plant expansions or disposal wells being drilled in the river parishes. Now they are green peace warriors because they are doing a seismic survey where they catfish? Come on.

Don't know anything about this particular incident, but "concerned citizens" by and large has become synonymous with "Conspiracy theorist Karens with too much time on their hands and a loose understanding of civics."

A CO2 leak into Lake Maurepas could be catastrophic. CO2 reacts with H2O to form carbonic acid and Air Products plans to store hundreds of millions of pounds under the lake. They say they will monitor for carbonic acid but what good will that do when it only indicates a leak has formed in some region but won’t indicate where the leak is, how many leaks there are (is it 1, 50, 100 leaks), or how to stop it. Once leaking starts it will be too late to do anything about it. All the crabbing, shrimping, catfishing, etc. is put at risk by storing pressurized CO2 gas under Lake Maurepas.

CO2 leaking into Lake Maurepas is a catastrophe that could reasonably happen. Where else has there been CO2 storage under a lake? What is the history? In my engineering profession we always contracted a third party independent professional Hazard review for projects like this. Internal reviews like Air Products is using are prone to excuse/minimize hazards because participants can be compromised by expectations of promotions, bonuses, etc. for minimizing cost and expediting project completion. I’ve witnessed project catastrophes (fatalities, tens of millions in damage, deforming injuries, etc.) following such internal hazard reviews. I’m compelled by those memories to speak out.

The people near Lake Maurepas deserve an independent Hazards review by a professional group before this project moves forward. It’s possible some responsible governing authorities may be eager for a payday and will expedite approvals in lieu of safety concerns. For example: Port Manchac will be given $75,000 / month to provide a materials laydown area for the project. There’s a lot of money being thrown around by Air Products and that should raise concerns by those who could be impacted by our lake turning acidic.

This project really needs to be taken off the fast track, slowed down, and studied by an independent 3rd party. A lake full of carbonic acid is a BIG DEAL. And the water flows into South Pass, Lake Pontchartrain, and the Gulf. Why can't they store it someplace not under our lake?
