So sad about these kids today and suicide I just don't get it and will leave it at that.

In the case of these kids, it was the pressure from their parents. A&M wasn’t good enough for them.

If ivy leaguers are all universally fricking brilliant why does our leadership class suck so badly, since that is where it is from?

We all had pressure as young adults but most didn't commit suicide when I was growing up. I think social media has contributed greatly to this epidemic.

wasn’t shocked by Texas, even though she applied to their public relations school which isn’t one of their tougher entries

This is the funny quote of the thread. After all the explanations you given and years of prep to get to this point, Public Relations is the goal?

Doesn't UT Dallas have a couple of very good programs?

Don't have a dog in the fight but I seem to remember they do, used to work down the street

Since most Texas schools are public, they have to allocate space for the auto qualify percent from shite schools in McAllen, Harlingen, etc

This is my plan. Live in The Woodlands and take advantage of the good schools as long as possible. Then move to bumfu*k country-arse Texas where the kids are dumb as rocks and let my kid make that top percentage more easily.

It really is kind of a stupid system when you look at it that way.

But, I don't care what you believe about how good a school district is, 25% of students making above a 4.0 is grade inflation. No it's, ands, or buts about it. You really think 1 in 4 kids are making straight A's (or at least the equivalent when taking AP into account)?

Lol I read this whole thread to find out exactly what her major would be and like a bad book such a horrible ending.

Wtf you do with that kind of degree?!

Also, as the poster above me alluded too, your HS is giving more A’s than it should and if you can’t do basic college calculus then you are not Ivy League / UT-A material.

I read this thread as more of a shock to you than a rant. shite I graduated from West Jeff with a 4.75 (damn ROTC) and was humbled QUICKLY once I walked into the UT system. Had to work damn hard to get my BSEE. Now I make more money than Aggies in my lab .

That’s another thing. If they can’t get into UT-A or A&M, and your hellbent on spending a shite ton of money for college; why not send her to SMU. At least there you can be a feaux rich bawette with the other rich kids who couldn’t get into Rice.

Public school grades are a 100% inflated. I went to a hard as shite private school and no one had over a 4.0.

Why doesn't she just go to an out of state school?

Getting into UGA is extremely difficult and kids here are going to Alabama.

Bad thing is that they come back.

Louisiana has the opposite problem. Some of the college educated see what's going both politically and with job availability and bolt.

I’ve posted this before, but a girl at my son’s school got a 36 on the ACT - TWICE - and has a GPA around a 4.6 with all A’s (4 AP classes per year), and got rejected by MIT. Another with a 4.6 and 34 ACT applied to Stanford and several Ivy Leagues, and only got into his 5th choice - Rice. Both are minorities as well. Another kid with a 4.6 and 35 ACT got rejected by Georgia Tech. I would have thought these kids were all slam dunks for those schools. It’s very competitive.
