$30,000 is poverty in America

Our societal memes haven't kept up with inflation.

I live in the Houston urban core and I actually think the opposite is true. It is mostly splitting hairs though, as the two are more similar than natives would like to admit

Awful ice storms. Bad hail and high tornado risk. How is it better than Houston weather notwithstanding the hurricane threat?

I’d never heard that term $30,000 millionaire before. According to Google AI, it’s a young man who is fresh out of college and makes about $30,000 a year, but spends like they’re a millionaire. Well, when the meme began the person would usually make about $30,000 a year, but due to inflation they’re now usually making more like $40,000-$50,000 a year.

That stereotype is often associated with Dallas.

Dallas tends to be flashier, and there's more emphasis on showing off wealth through big houses and nice cars. Houston feels more down to earth, and its wealth is generally more understated. Houston has the better food scene, while Dallas is noticeably cleaner and more polished. Houston also has a lot of soul and cultural diversity. In my experience, people in Houston seem a little more focused on work than on going out, though both cities have a strong business culture. Traffic is bad and it's hot in both.

Both are overgrown monuments to unchecked, sprawling development and are hotter than hell. So it really just boils down to what kind of people you want to be around. Houston is known for being a little more salt of the Earth, to put it nicely. Dallas is known for being a little more pretentious.

You just stay home for ice

The chance of a tornado hitting your house is incredibly low

The chances of a hurricane seriously affecting you in houston every 10 years or so is high

frick hurricanes

Dallas

The Las Colinas area was great 15-20 years ago. Great access to DFW airport. Only 15 minutes to downtown. Haven’t been there in years but I know it was a booming area all those years ago.

So, 70% vs 80%?

Austin and west Texas are going to have the drier air. Not DFW.

Dallas has a better concentration of wealthly neighborhoods in the Unverisity park/highland park with the rich starter homes in lakewood. Where Houston is more pocketed with West U/Blvd Oaks, River Oaks, Bellaire, and Memorial/Tanglewood

Houston's core does have the advantage in pockets of liveable neighborhoods with different vibes. Montrose, heights, garden oaks, timbergrove, brairmeadow, ect.

and Dallas doesnt feel like you've entered Mogadishu in between the nice areas, unlike Houston (and New Orleans for that matter)

Houston has Lake Conroe but Lake Houston and Livingston are trash lakes

Fort Worth is really ugly and shitty outside of the few nicer neighborhoods

I don't get the love affair with it here. big city problems without big city amenities
