This.

What was once seen as morbidly obese has reached a point where it doesn’t look so bad anymore because people are now significantly fatter.

Fat acceptance is a real thing.

It’s funny watching posters bitch about fat acceptance and peoples expectations shifting, then that same poster raves how skinny Europe is

Europe is 52% overweight and 22% obese

They are fat as frick now too. It’s just America is fatter

If you're skinny, and not bothered by fat people, that's not fat acceptance.

Are we supposed to be anti fattist like the anti racists?

Because that's annoying as frick.

It is though

You don't have to actively confront fat people in public or something weird like that. But by deciding that beer guts and baby weight are ok you're shifting what's socially acceptable to include those things.

Maybe acceptance isn’t the correct term.

It is more of the change in perception I was referencing.

What was once seen as obese is now seen as normal with normal seen as skinny.

It skews our view of the situation.

How about the fatasses that drink lite beer and comment on your "heavy" beer and say they can't drink it because it's got too many carbs/calories. They then proceed to drink 12-15 lite beers and wonder why they are fatasses.

I noticed this after madamsquirrel posted she had a few iced teas, then had some pie and then washed it down with Chic-fil-a the next day.

Nah. Acceptance is the correct term. As a society, we have accepted that being 20-30 lbs overweight is normal. That is fat acceptance.

3 boneless skinless breasts at Walmart Saturday was $14 and change.

I buy a rotisserie chicken from walmart every week, sometimes twice a week. $4.97. They do brine them up a bit so watch your added salt. I cut it up and mix it with veggies and rice or quinoa. Very easy to pull the breast and leanest dark meat. The skin and fatty dark meat go to my dogs. Nothing is wasted. It's inexpensive and saves time.
I also suggest buying your green vegetables frozen particularly if your choice of vegetables are out of season. Frozen veggies are typically picked at the peak of freshness and packaged where fresh produce is typically picked well before it has ripened.

I completely agree, but the concept I was referencing was the skewing of our perception, not the social acceptance.

We have no idea what a healthy individual should look like anymore.

The appropriate body weight and body size would likely be viewed as “skinny” or “sickly” now.

I had a coworker once tell me that I looked ill because I had dropped a few pounds.

We can’t differentiate anymore.

I truly believe our obesity epidemic has partially been caused by our obsession with "health" foods that are loaded with calories.

There's a Smoothie King on every corner, a Playa Bowls type place on every college campus, sushi restaurants everywhere, etc. People think they're eating nutrient-rich foods (and they often are) but completely ignoring the overall calorie count. Add in 500 calorie coffees at Starbucks to have WITH a breakfast sandwich, and it's a recipe for fatness.

In the end, it really is:

1. Calories in <<< calories out will result in weight loss.

2. Eat food as close to the way the good Lord made it. Shop the perimeter of the grocery store.

3. If a food is packaged, it should have less than 5 ingredients and you should be able to read them.

4. Abs are made in the kitchen.

I haven't read all 12 pages but one thing that doesn't get mentioned nearly enough as it should is the comically terrible, archaic food pyramid that we were all taught since childhood. That motherfricker receommended somethign like TWELVE (12!) servings a day of bread/grains/rice. Think about eating 12 "sevings" (whatever that may be) of pasta, rice, and sub sandwiches a day and think how long it'd take for you to blimp up.

Hell I just googled the food pyramid and the one that came up lists 30% of your intake should be breads/cereals/pasta with 15% being meat/fish/eggs/milk. Let that sink in...according to our illustrious FDA you should be eating DOUBLE the amoutn of bread/rice/pasta in a day as the anount of fish or meat. EVERY DAY.

If I want to keep weight off, I have to eliminate bread, rice, and potatoes as daily staples and have them only on special occasions.

I suspect my farming ancestors were able to eat whatever they wanted and burned those calories off easily during the day. Not so when you sit behind a keyboard.

when I was heavily into running, I was 6'2" 165 lbs

I got called "sickly" all the time by a bunch of dudes that would get out of breath walking up stairs

even today at 185 lbs, I still get the "lets get Salmon a cheeseburger to put some meat on his bones" by some guy that is 5 years out from dying of a heart attack
