I agree but that isn’t happening in many places.
Many places are still awaiting for high speed infrastructure to get to them. The competition to build such infrastructure is not quite as frenzied as the "DON'T CHARGE ME FOR MORE" crowd seems to think. If providers couldn't index price by consumption, they would be further disincentivized to expand service. And some of what critics call "monopolies" are really the byproducts of upfront investments to expand infrastructure. There aren't many places left with true TV monopolies left, but there are still plenty of places that high-speed internet hasn't reached and never would reach if the Same-Pricers had their way.

I can't speak for all companies but spectrum is launching spectrum mobile this month for customers with internet service. Yes. Spectrum(Charter/Time Warner/Brighthouse) will be launching phone service. Will be using Verizon towers.

Man that’s going to be interesting. Verizon is very strict on who touches their sites. Spectrum isn’t exactly A1 lol.

I think it's working exactly the way he and his handlers intended it to.
Well, yea, which is why it needs to be regulated in the first place. Can't let the duopolies rule the roost and frick over customers.
Funny how Google Fiber announces they were coming to Charlotte a few years ago and suddenly TWC got off their arse and offered better speeds and prices.
We need competition folks, people having no choice in their ISPs really suck for the consumer.

In other words suckers who will pay for garbage cable TV just to have internet.
Why would you even watch cable if you have access to streaming services?
Cable is literally garbage stuffed between commercials.
“Reality” shows and shitty sitcoms, all of which I can watch virtually commercial free through other means.
Take your cable and shove it

I just have a hard time believing anywhere in Dfw has only one provider option.
He's full of shite. People confuse "availability" with "monopoly." I have friends living in new construction in Houston who only have one option, but it has nothing to do with regulation and everything to do with available hook-ups.

Cost should be based on consumption. No reason old people only using internet for email and shite using 10 GB a month should pay the same as a baw streaming 24/7 eating up 2 TB of data.
Most people don’t understand the costs associated with data. They think the internet is just free magic that floats through the air. Well it’s actually not magic. And it’s not free. The more data you push, the more servers you need. And the more servers you need, the more data centers you need. And none of that is free.

Some people don't understand the value of competition and free markets. It's amazing how the "cost of data" comes down when competition comes into town, and they still somehow manage to make a profit. Now THAT's magic!

As they should
I also feel like as a cable subscriber still I should receive unlimited internet instead of having to pay an extra $50 for no cap with Cox

My post has nothing to do with free market capitalism. I still don’t think you understand the costs associated with data.

I don’t think they are getting that deep into their system. They are just reselling services like the the prepaid carriers have been doing for years.
It is the same network, but routed and managed differently than Verizon’s main traffic on the backend.
Comcast is doing a similar offer of cellular customers to their own cellular plan. I think they too are using the Verizon network.
I guess the triple play can’t keep up with the number of households dropping POTS service.

I have no problem with this. I also have no problem with data caps.
Fine if data caps are set at a reasonable amount, and if the overage amount is priced fairly, but it isn't.
** Also, if I barely use the data I pay for 1 month will the cable company give me a refund? since we should pay based on consumption and all.

I understand the value of competition very well. As others have noted, when competition comes into town, prices go down (as if by magic). It must be magic since their cost of data hasn't changed. Now the battle turns to other fronts such as efficiencies, innovation, etc. The "cost of data" is just one of many factors.

Stupid people are usually poor. More expensive Internet access means less stupid people on the world wide web.
I think we should let this play out.
