Their act of defelonizing is a good thing, but they really need to look into mandatory rehab for offenders.

Mandatory rehab is usually a bad idea because you mix those that truly want help with those forced to be there. It drains resources and can create a toxic environment.

Intervention(Treatment) in lieu of conviction and other diversionary programs are what needs to be expanded. Many counties are creating drug courts to more adequately help offenders get treatment than go into the system at all.

I am curious to see just to what extent prison costs go down and whether we see an increase in violent and/or property crime as a result of keeping more users out of jail. If I had to guess, I would assume that prison costs go down only slightly in the short term, but yield large longterm savings. I would also hypothesize that property crime (burglary, petty theft, shoplifting, armed robbery) will increase in the short term, but over the long term, violent and property crime will go down as a result.

I hypothesize people will have better job/career outlooks when felonies are not on their records for silly drug possession. There will be more parents at home and working.

Denver went to shite after legalizing Pot. I can't wait to see how bad it will get now.

Can you support this with any facts or is this your personal opinion?

Not sure you can make this case with drugs like heroin. A heroin addict is a walking crime wave.

Look, I can’t stand junkies, but I don’t think the best course of action or use of money is incarcerating them and then giving them a felony. When they get out it’s basically a given they’ll start using without being able to get gainful employment.

I think real, effective treatment is the key. I hate opioids. I just think the way the system is now does little to help it.

But it isn't.....more and more people will now try these drugs bc they'll only get a fine.....more and more will become addicts and our tax money will be spent on their addictions.

Can you support that it hasn't with any facts?

I'd say the onus is on the pothead.

I never made the claim that Denver is declining due to pot legalization, as I have not been to Denver in many years.

From what I have read tho the economy is booming and property values are increasing due to the recent influx into the area

Do you live in Denver and can elaborate on how the city is getting 'worse' due to pot legalization?

Yes.

Very much yes. My rental property house has appreciated almost 20% in the 2 years I've owned it.

Middle class people are getting giddy about smoking pot.

They move to Colorado and become potheads then lose their house to addiction.

If it's not a shithole now just give it 5 years.

Doesn't work. Hell rehab barely works for people who believe they need help and want help.

Total waste of money forcing rehab. Might as well save the money for folks who hit rock bottom and want to make a change. And even then, percentages are low for people who stay sober.

I saw a show the other day where a paramedic was saying a lot of these junkies are actually getting addicted to Narcan.

Using one drug to get people off another drug never works. We have to train the brain to think differently.
