Colonizing Mars- really what’s the point?

Why?

The place is completely incompatible with humans living there.

Any human “civilization” would require the populace to live in a completely enclosed artificial life support system.

I could see colonizing Mars if Mars were the next step necessary in getting humans to the next “earth” like planet on the galaxy or universe. However, there is NO EVIDENCE that such a place exists.

So again what’s the point?

A human landing and returning successfully to earth, yeah that would be cool.

Colonizing- seems pointless

Eventually we will run out of material/resources to support our way of life. If we don’t figure out a way to leave earth and gather more resources, we will either perish or live a more basic life.

Have you looked around at the world lately? Now imagine 20 years from now.
Millions of people will want off.

You would fill up deserts and ocean platforms and tundras before Mars would even begin to make sense.

A realistic colonization would require terraforming but we aren't even remotely close to the technology for that. Until we find a cheaper way to orbit there's really no sense putting humans in space at all to be honest. All it does is take away needed resources from unmanned spacecraft where the real science is done

I think it would be limited to people carrying out experiments there. Otherwise it makes no sense. Theres not enough oxygen and too much carbon dioxide to breath.

No point at all. We're all going to be sucked into a black hole anyway.

Mars can be hit by space objects just like any other planet.

There are NO resources on Mars that can sustain life on it.

There are also no other planets in the solar system that can help sustain life here.

Once earth is done, humans are done.

If someone were to say, “look we need to get to mars in order to set up this telescope so we can see this blue planet that we can’t see from earth and we need mars as the launching site to get there- ok.

Otherwise, it’s a waste to say “we need to have people living there” to ease up on earth’s resources being used up.

What kind of life would that be for humans to live in a bubble FOREVER or they will die.

Frick that

Probably to further our reach in searching

There’s a planet in the Alpha Centauri system called Proxima b that’s in the habitable zone. That’s our closest and best chance for a fresh planet

If we want our species to survive, we need to spread as far and wide as possible.

Start where you can. Mars is a great starting point.

Has nothing to do with global warming.

If we don’t figure out how to expand and proliferate amongst the stars we will likely destroy ourselves.

Hard to imagine people too stupid to comprehend that.

To live in a bubble

To never be able to go outside

To never be able to breathe actual natural air

What kind of life would a kid have growing up there?

The list goes on and on.

Human beings put in a position like this would crumble psychologically and could never make it living in an environment like that.

We are social animals that require others and a stimulating environment in which to live. Living in a bubble is ridiculous

Then why not just go get the shite we need and come back to earth with it?

I have no idea. I'm just asking.
