Sold plasma pretty often. Would try to hit up new places because they always paid you more for your first or second visits. Man...those waiting rooms were full of some scary people.
Would always clip coupons to Jack in the Box or Ghatti's from the Reveille or Tiger Weekly.
"Rented" tools from wal mart.
Always attended free lunches when offered on campus.
Had a Sam's club card and would get the huge Stoeffer's frozen Lasagna for $10 and eat on that for a whole week, every meal.

My wife and I's first date was for lunch and I used a coupon card for BOGO burrito's at Moe's. Lol. She still deservedly give's me crap for that.

My pretty rad gf, who I met in June 2011, and I are closing on a new Lil DSLD house on 3/29, almost 8 years later.
It's surreal to think back to those days while I'm picking out counter tops and appliances for a new house that will be in my name.
I've never been so excited and emotional to be able to buy a cookie-cutter Re-Starter Home. It's like a roller coaster of , , and

Not reading through this entire thread, but I am sure someone has mentioned eating the $0.98 pizzas. Can't remember the brand but I ate so many of those pizza, after a few years of eating them all the time I got sick of eating them to the point just the smell of them bothered me.

Worked at Sears unloading trucks at night and waxing floors. 40 hours a week from 10pm -6am. Went to school full time without scholorships or parental help.
Lived above my managers (at sears) garage for 3 years. No heat or ac, showered in an open outside shower. A couch to sleep on and a metal folding chair were my only furniture, with a small fridge I found on side of the road.
His house was near Sears but a couple miles from campus. I made a bicycle out of damaged bikes from work so I would not have to walk to school.
Meals usually consisted of canned refried beans spread onto a flour tortilla. Ate that probably 75% of the time.
Graduated on time and with zero debt.

that's good, because I'm sure it was uphill both ways and snowing every day of the year

Regularly ate PB&J sandwiches, Kraft mac and cheese, canned pork and beans, and vienna sausages. Drank Ancient Age Bourbon at LSU games. Less than $5 a fifth. What a bargain.

I need not lighten up...
what is the difference between the admitted theft via friend's parent's credit card, and tiger114 being a guest at that parent's house and helping himself to $400 cash hidden in a drawer?
Do you have kids in college? How do you feel about unwittingly paying $525 for textbooks when your kid only needed $350 for his/her books?
Ohh.. so they were wealthy? I guess that makes it ok.

frick off, you're pretty stupid if you settled for that for three years in a row, not much in the way of innovation, you're probably still working for Sears, oh wait...

Uncalled for. Why are you chastising someone for having to do what they had to do, in order to survive and graduate college?

Selling plasma was the best. You got cash and they always had Blade 2 on.
I used to eat one big combo of easymac and asian flavored Roman before I went out.
We used to sneak ziplocks into the cafe and sneak food out too.

This cheating scandal got me thinking about the ways I coped to get through school.
Like eating rice sandwiches. Like shaving with soap instead of shaving cream. Like selling plasma.
Whatcha got?
When I went to ULL, Reddog beer was $1 a piece at one of the dives off the Mckinley strip. I could get waxed for less than $30 for the entire weekend.

Brings back fond memories of the cheapest Manda roast beef, canned chili, off-brand mac and cheese. Lots of Popov vodka and Usher's scotch. Leaving a $.50 tip when the beers were $2.50 (sorry). Miss Mae's $1 bourbon and cokes.

just responding to an insult from him, but what I said I believe to be true, part of the college education is learning to think on your feet and improvise, when I left LSU I had a couple of rental properties and a couple of cash only side businesses, actually took a pay cut to go fly jets for my uncle

Funny you should say that. In one of our early dates I used a BOGO coupon for that (now closed) pizza place, where Zapata's is, near Home Depot on Siegen. Wife also still gives me crap for it. I never thought anything of it at the time. Being thrifty was part of who I was and it never occurred to me that I was being a cheap date.

Not reading through this entire thread,
You should make time, this is a great thread.
A friend up in the mountains at Virginia Tech lived in his car Fall and Spring Quarters. Dorm doors weren't locked then so he showered, etc. in the dorm and studied in the heated general area. Many nights he'd fall asleep in the chair where he was doing his homework.

I had a full meal plan my first 2 years, but when I moved off campus, shite got real. Often times, the only 2 things in my refrigerator would be a jug of tap water and a box of baking powder. One summer, I washed cars at this mom and pop location for $8-$15 dollars a day in the Louisiana heat. Brutal to say the least.
