Does anyone have an informed opinion of how to handle them? This summer (pre-8th grade) he's doing our local Big10 university's kicking camp and then our high school's week long camp. I have been batting around the idea of him visiting/camping starting summer 2021 at campus around the midwest/south. As much as I want one of them to be in Starkville, I refuse to send him until they get a competent coach who wants to be there...not the shite he's put out there while looking at fricking Big10 bottom dweller Rutgers. I've read a ton of good things about Saban's camp...especially with his hands on approach to the secondary positions. I'm not sure of the order either, is the most important summer to "get eyes on him" pre-sophomore or pre-junior year? (Unfortunately we're in a small town/ conference who's only "power 5" D1 recruit was my wife...20+ years ago.)

My thinking: The list right now is SEC (Bama/State), Wisconsin, Minnesota (would absolutely love if State brought in PJ Fleck), and then the spot where I had Notre Dame. I was immediately turned off when I saw the price tag AND pretentious camp brochure. (It all but comes right out and says they view the camp as a way of judging the level of commitment an athlete and his parents have to the program.) Replacements would be either a D1 directional school in the midwest, doubling up on one of the first three, or an AAC school. At this point I just need to figure out a plan so we can plan summers around them.

Details that matter: My 12 yo son has the measurables, he's 6'1" 180 and projected to end up 6'8". He has the frame to build up into being a Hunter Henry style TE to a Ramczyk style OT. (I'm a former walk-on T and my wife was a 2x all-American in track.) We joke that my oldest got our shittiest genes while he got the good ones. Last year in 6th grade he made it to state in the 7th grade 200m. The big drawback is that we have had to put him in soccer instead of tackle football because of the position restrictive size restrictions here so next year will be his first.

He's 12 years old, I think you're thinking too much into this. Let his body develop and let him have fun.

If you didn't get little Braxtynn in camps starting at the peewee level you're way too late. Sorry.

So that other kid is admiring your kid’s arse. Other than that, not sure I can be of much help here.

They’ve changed things up but it use to just be regular ole high coaches doing all the coaching at these camps so it’s not like Saban will be coaching your kid up. The position specific camps are better for kids that age. Send him to a few college camps where he’s interested in going.

One of the weirdest images ever shared here.

And that’s saying something.

Until he is high school aged or already an elite athlete I wouldn't spend much money on camps. He will be surrounded with 100s of other kids and won't get much out of it except a few fundamental drills.

I was 6-1 180 in 7th grade. Was projected to be 6-4. Now I’m 42 and still 6-1.

If you're kicking I think that's the last place you'd want to go.

I've been looking at camps for this coming summer for my 12 yr old, he's a 7th grade QB and doing pretty well.

Most are $275.00-$300.00 for two/three days, I say F that mess.

What are they going to get in two/three days.

His school has a strength and conditioning program that's $150.00 for six weeks, that sounds more up my alley.

We've got a bunch of camps calling trying to get our son to attend, he's got quite the reputation around the college scouts. I'm just a little bit concerned because of how much money they're offering him just to go to the camp, it seems like that would be a lot to hide from the tax man and could get him in NCAA trouble in 5 or six years when he signs with a school. So we'll see.
