In Georgia if you score over 1250 on the SAT and have a GPA over 3.80 then college tuition is free at any State school you can get into.
My daughter had over a 4.0 GPA but scored 1200 on the SAT.
We paid 1,000 for a class which she spent 6 hours a week in the class and then an additional 6 hours of work at home per week.
The class lasted 6 weeks and it greatly improved her score so her tuition is covered.
This is an example of white privilege I keep hearing about.

If you would have spent more money then your daughter could have gotten into a better school with less work and she would love you more.

Just make it PMITA prison instead of white collar resort prison and that will make anyone else think twice.

For anyone interested in this case, there is pretty good 7 part series podcast called “gangster capitalism”.

They proved in earlier cases that they didn’t take the place of other kids, so harm was not a factor.
Don’t care if you cite a court transcript. A kid who could have succeeded didn’t get in because a wealthy kid illegitimately did.

Nothing.
Money will always make things happen.
If you aren’t born into wealth, don’t hate on people that are and have it easier

ITT: The OT is, once again, too fricking stupid to understand this situation.

Donating extra money and finding a wrinkle to get in somewhere they otherwise would not have? Give me a break.
I’m sorry but you don’t understand what happened. They didn’t donate money to the school. They paid professional cheaters to help them cheat on entrance exams, lied about accomplishments on applications, and bribed coaches to give them spots/scholarships for sports they didn’t even play.
And on top of all that, they funneled the money to pay for all of the above illegal activity through a sham charity and claimed it as a write off on their taxes.

I wonder what high ranking officials in Congress had someone do the tough work for them while in college?

How do you fix what appears to be a disturbing culture of corruption among some of America’s well off/wealthy?
That’s just one head of the hydra.
It’s not just “the wealthy” who are corrupted. The wealthy are no different than the non-wealthy in that regard.
We have a culture that has lost its faith in a greater purpose. We have lost touch with a sense of a grand narrative, or in other words, we have lost our faith in God and/or in ourselves.
This is a result of being in a postmodern period. There is no belief in objective truth. We don’t see ourselves, at least not in sufficient ways, of being in unifying story. Relativism of morality is everywhere you look. In fact, we are bombarded with the message of, “everything goes”, and “you dare not judge”.

My problem is with the testing company, ETS, having a monopoly on standardized testing. I am not against having a college admission test. What I think we need is healthy competition.

Its already compromised. The SAT/ACT was never meant to be studied or practiced. Now theres a complete industry behind test prep.

that's a can of worms that I'm sure a lot of them would rather see not opened
ETA: the Kennedys were a good example of that

Self-help writer who preaches the same thing you just spouted off. "Everything is bad because of post-modernist philosophers that nobody read in college who are also marxists and want to make boys wear pink", that kinda nonsense.
He's made a name for himself on the internet spouting empty platitudes over the last couple years, you seem to be parroting a lot of his greatest hits and I thought you might be a fan of his (or "lobster" as they like to call themselves).

This
I don’t get why USC just didn’t take a nice donation from the parents and let them in
Or why the parents just didn’t do that

think it’s blown way out of proportion. Big doners get favors given back all the time since the beginning of time. It’s not hurting anyone.
Donating money isn’t the issue
It’s cheating on the SAT and ACTS and the mail fraud and money laundering that is

Getting in is tougher than actually staying in
Besides how hard could her sociology degree be?

What gets me is that these are rich families with children that are at least of average intelligence....but instead of coaching and very expensive tutoring (which they can afford), they are electing to cheat on the SAT entirely.
