Dear USC Community,
If you are aware of any rich but stupid prospective students having interest in enrolling in our wonderful University, please have them contact our development office directly to coordinate their 6 or 7 figure donation.

Stanford's Sailing Coach! If you ever thought about funneling cash to a coach--the Sailing Coach would be my choice because NO ONE would even look there.

lol at USC
Bill Laurie, his daughter was paying some hispanic girl to do her homework and i believe her tests.
Nothing there, when it comes to academic fraud would shock me.
And i believe only reason Lauries daughter got caught, is she stopped paying or didn't like being hustled for more cash and hispanic girl ratted her out.

You would pretty much have to take his word for it that a prospective recruit was a collegiate level sailor.

"The nine coaches and sports administrators indicted were Rudolph "Rudy" Meredith, former Yale women's soccer coach; Donna Heinel, USC associate athletic director; Ali Khosroshahin, former USC women's soccer coach; Jovan Vavic, USC women's water polo coach; William Ferguson, Wake Forest volleyball coach; John Vandemoer, Stanford sailing coach; and Gordie Ernst, former men's and women's tennis coach at Georgetown. Ernst was hired last year to coach women's tennis at Rhode Island."
Sounds like a lot of Women are caught up in this scandal.

Title IX guarantees a ton of scholarships have to be funded regardless of a demand to be filled.
If you have football and men’s basketball, you have probably 100 women’s scholarships to give out and only so many go to basketball or soccer.
The team in question being an afterthought in competition probably helps things. If no one wants to do fencing and USC’s team sucks, why not use it as a landing place for people back-dooring their way into the school?

Paying $500,000 to get your kid into USC is like paying $3,000 for a Big Mac and fries

but dem fries !
Ever since McDonald's, a restaurant that sells fricking HAMBURGERS, caved to the vegans and quit using lard for the fries, they're pretty meh. They're less meh than everyone else's though.

Well they weren’t even on the fencing team. It was entirely made-up and coaches/administrators were in on it.
FWIW, of the 9 coaches and admins arrested, 4 coached women’s sports, two coaches men’s sports, two coached both genders, and one was an associate athletic director. I couldn’t find info on whoever was arrested from USD.

1. Center agreed to accept $100,000 in bribe money to designate someone as a student athlete on the Tennis team, despite knowing the student had never played competitive tennis.
2. The student's father paid the fraudulent nonprofit (KWF) a HUGE sum of money to arrange this bribe. "On or about February 27, 2015, Applicant l's father made a purported donation of stock valued at $455,194 to KWF." He later made an additional donation of $173,000 worth of stock to KWF.
He paid over a half million to get a kid into UT AUSTIN???
Fake news. If he's that dumb he's an Aggie.

They didn't use lard. They used beef tallow.

What I meant is “a non-playing kid wasting a spot” is easier to hide under such circumstances.
Sports have scholarship number restrictions at the least and likely have limits on how many people they can even accept as walk ons. So blowing a spot on a kid who will never show up doesn’t happen on teams looking to be competitive.

The optics of having the USC associate AD in addition to just minor sport coaches involved is horrible for them. The other schools can blame rogue dirty coaches but having someone in the AD office is going to make this a shitstorm for them.

In USC’s case, it may lead to a long overdue housecleaning of the athletic department.
The whole thing had needed an enema for years. Replacing Pat Haden with Lynn Swann doesn’t change the issues there.
