-23 with a 15-20 mph wind on a friend’s ranch in Wyoming. We rounded up cows, fed horses, all that shite. Went up there in February to experience a Wyoming winter. I did.

I used to work in the deep freeze at Sam's Club. Minus 9 degrees for 30 minutes at time, wearing shorts and t-shirt.
Yes, I'm a moron.

8. I think it was in 07-08ish time frame, had an arctic air mass come south. I went hunting that morning and sat in my blind with a Mr Buddy running and was quite comfortable. Didn’t see shite.
I didn’t find it bad, I wore insulated boots and layered appropriately. But i was out of the wind with a heater. So it wasn’t like i was just hiking through the woods.
The water hose on my camelbak froze walking to the blind if that makes a difference.

Haha. Funny story. I did a big pavement job at the largest Walmart distribution center in Texas years ago. Manager took us on a tour of the facility, and I’ve got to admit I was really impressed. It’s an incredible operation that literally runs 24/7/365.
Walked through a door with a weird air curtain and lines painted on the floor creating a kind of invisible vestibule. I asked the manager what it was for. He smiled and told me to step across the line. And like a goober, I did.
Holy. shite. It took my breath away. Went from 73 to -4 by stepping over the line. Only then did I notice the workers all wore insulated suits. Awesome technology.

I did that D-4=3 easy peasy in 1977.
2 years later I did Parris Island as a Marine recruit. That shite was ruff, even though I was in good shape.

-11 is my record. I went to western KY back in the 80's I think and visited family. I was there for 11 days and it was below 0 for nine of them. Highest it got the whole time I was there was 19.
People up there installed a lot of heat pumps on their housed back in the energy crisis 70's and at below 0 the thing dont work so it has heat strips in the air ducts. It was too cold for them to do any good so many people bought indoor grade kerosene heaters and CO monitors too...

-75 windchill.
Was not dressed for it.
Only out in it ten minutes or so.
Years later i had all the gear and did short hikes in a foot of snow and below zero but no wind.
-75 was in a gale on the shore of lake michigan.
Was only 10 or 15 below.
I know the -75 because i watched the local tv weather right before i went out.

absolute MISERY.
