on another project to expedite repairs to the Sunshine Bridge.

The bad news is that CB is habitually late on many of the projects that they have had with the state.

Definitely a situation to watch closely.

I know this is dated, but Coastal did a great job on Riverfront Landing (dock and pedestrian bridge for Mississippi Queen and Delta Queen riverboats.

Man just looking at their portfolio, i do not think i would have chosen them to do a repair on a high level truss bridge of this magnitude.

This article is the definition of fake news. All of the projects listed are road projects performed by their road division which has little or nothing to do with their bridge division. Their bridge division hasn't been late on a single project in years and has a solid reputation with the state for performing the most difficult projects ahead of schedule and below budget. CB was awarded the job because they already had an ongoing existing contract to do structural repairs and were already onsite. The LaDOTD knows they are more than capable of doing the repairs and it made all the sense in the world to get them to do the repairs.
Secondly, several of the jobs mentioned have pending plan changes to get more days added back to the contract due to plan errors, utilities, and weather. On top of that, CB doesn't owe the state 500k and even if they have piled up 750k in late fees since 2012, they do 70 million a year. So lets see, 70 million x 6 years is 420 million dollars making 750k less than 1% of total revenue.
Instead, the article should have been about how well the project is going and how CB is currently ahead of schedule. Possibly mention something about they are a local contractor and take pride that we have a locally owned business with the capabilities to perform this very difficult repair. Instead WAFB uses late road projects by a completely different division to incite fear in the public and smear the LaDOTD and CB when in reality, they are doing a wonderful job working tirelessly around the clock to get this open to the public.

That's the shitty thing about government work, you don't get to choose. You're legally obligated to go with the lowest bidder.

John Glenn said

‘I felt exactly how you would feel if you were getting ready to launch and knew you were sitting on top of 2 million parts — all built by the lowest bidder on a government contract.’

All I know is Kelly Sills is loaded with money.
Has more big boy toys - planes, helicopters, offshore racing boats, vacation homes than Carter has liver pills.

for sure we just found the coastal employee.

it does not matter if it is a different division or not. As long as they are operating under coastal bridge and they have a signed contract with LADOTD if they are late on one or more contracts, they should be on the do not bid list and charged liquidated damaged.

what about the swing span bridge in bourg? i'm pretty sure that one was late. care to mention any specific difficult bridge jobs they completed on time and below budget? care to explain why they never been awarded a design build project? James, Gilchrist, and Boh Brothers say what's up.

What drew you to buy Coastal Bridge Company back in 2013?

The previous owners wanted to sell and I had the ability to buy, so it made sense. I did not want to see all my other employee friends go to work for a competitor or lose their jobs in downsizing or replication.
So was this daddys money?

Pretty sure Sills was involved with one of the large builders (maybe Level homes) before coastal...

Not sure though. I know he has alot going on. I think he was promoted to VP of one of these big companies when he was like 20 or so.

Yes. Such an idiotic tagline. Makes me cringe every time I see it.
