Exactly.

I wonder how many people commenting have every been up to that area?

It makes Bougalusa look like a thriving metropolis.

Also, Lake Providence police are thieves.

All you'd have to do is take a drive between Vidalia and Rayville. That has to be one of the most economically depressed parts of the country.

Farmerville and the lake are okay, but most of the rest of that region (except the Monroe and Ruston area) is in very serious trouble. They are losing paper mills and forestry products production almost every year. They can't keep an economy afloat on speeding tickets.

Use Grok unhinged for the funny jokes.

Not sure about the cybersex stuff though. I'm sure someone is working on it.

The state offered billions of dollars in tax breaks to win the project, and the local utility will supply three new power plants.

I thought part of the deal was that Meta was paying for those to be built?

Monroe is not thriving by any means, NLU is on life support, LUMEN is gone.
If the mill in W Monroe shuts down it will become a ghost town like Da Strop has.
Heck Morehouse parish has one garbage truck.

It's the best part of the state, by far. Watching these idiots pontificate about the Meta site and the region is hilarious.

To them the whole area is a cess pool of poverty and despair with zero redeeming value. They just gloss over the fact that it's some of the most fertile land in the world, and home to the most advanced farming practices in the world. Not to mention the wealth of outdoor recreation.

Did you miss the part about the state owning the land for 20 years because they were trying to attract a manufacturing plant?
Then keep looking for a better deal. Because this one sucks balls.

Damn, I was billed out at $190 an hour as a first year summer law clerk almost 20 years ago.

Not surprised shitty bookkeepers are still around that rate.

Nothing like it used to be, but there is still a fair amount. Depends on the year and the markets. Which arent worth a shite right now for any crop.

Tell that to the electricians plumbers etc etc etc.

The state has been looking for a “better deal” for 20 years.

There ain’t one.

The choice is META or nothing. Potentially for another 20 years. At which point the population drain and mind drain will continue on and on until the area completely dies.

You have to start somewhere.

This is there regardless of meta. NELAs population has continued to drop

As others noted it’s far better than a solar farm in that regard.

The Monroe metro area is number 1 in poverty rate

That’s simply data.

When you lose State Farm, the guide plant, centurylink/lumen and others over the course of 30 years and don’t replace it that will create problems.

Yea, I know. I live here. None of that has anything to do with my point. Which was combatting "that area between Ferriday and Lake Providence" being worthless, as many here pretend is the case. It's the Mississippi River delta. It has this thing called agriculture

People are sure taking their chance at any opportunity. EVERY piece of property and building within 5 miles of the site is for sale right now!

Something that seems interesting to me is 5,10, whatever years ago the search for a project this size was always for the workforce that you needed for the finished industry. But these centers just aren't going to employ that many people, so they can be placed anywhere.
