This thread is exhausting

You honestly think BET is a source of true racial conflict in America?
Is it something groundbreaking? No. Do plenty of people get up in arms about it? yes. So while it may not be at the forefront of racial conflict, I think it's caused more grief than it's worth.

Unless you are arguing for "white" programming to become more integrated, then why should it bother anyone that people watch BET?
I've argued that both sides can't have their cake and eat it too. Gentrification is a huge problem in many cities, especially my home, Nashville.
quote:
I agree that whites and blacks have things in common. They both generally like things they relate to. White people relate to white centric shows. I don't know, but I think it's a safe assumption that black people relate more to black centric shows. Nothing wrong with that. When BET was started, there was an untapped market that the founder believed he could capture. He was right. The free market worked.
Fresh Prince, Martin, etc have done well on other stations. Put Fresh Prince and Seinfeld back to back and I'd watch the shite out of that. I think I have before actually.
anyways, the guy above is right. We can just agree to disagree.

That's fine

I'm guessing the people hating on Stacey Dash are the same ones that would hate on Rashida Jones for not being "all the way black".
Bunch of doosh drinkers.

They are both fine as hell imo

But none of that actually happened.
Non black people get awards from black groups all the time, including BET awards.
BET doesn't exclude anyone. You don't have to be black to watch it.
It is a principle based remark/discussion. I don't give a shite personally about any awards show, so I can't attest to that point in the argument. But, I do know that these are mostly just popularity contests. So again, what she is saying is that if you don't like one group's opinion of what is popular, either create your own group to proclaim what is popular, or disregard the aforementioned group's opinion. To create your own contest, and thus form your own opinion, while criticizing another competing opinion diminishes the whole purpose of creating your own opinion in the first place?
Do you get it now? She isn't attacking the BET awards, but attacking certain opponents. she is simply acknowledging that you can't call out racism if you have your own forum, unless of course you want to open up that forum to the same criticism as you are alleging.
And for crying out loud, it is called the Black Entertainment Television Awards, do you mean to tell me that isn't geared towards black folks? It's in the damn title that it's focus is on what black people are entertained by. I have a feeling that the number of black winners is probably greater than other races winners.

Your a hill supporter are you not ? Don't think you can intimidate me.

Why don't we just get rid of all of the awards.
I don't think I have ever watched an award show.

If I am insulting you I don't mean to. It just fun.

She's a conservative, so it makes sense she would be criticized by the left.

Colder.
If I have to pick a main candidate id have to say Paul, but I don't agree with some of his positions

Your fun and no the guy that posted after you knows not what he is talking about. Frankly, don't think there is a lot out there again in any flavor once again.
I hope I vote for that matter. I always feel guilty. I usually vote for my Mom since she is invalid and she is a yellow dog democrat all her life. Looks like my choice again. Still far off.

Yes, he has caught my attention and not for the first time through the years. He makes a bit of sense.
