Has anyone noticed how disgusting and filthy some people keep their houses? There is no common denominator either. Young and old alike, it seems a large majority of the populous just don’t care. Is this phenomenon getting worse?

Good immune systems.

Won't have to clean until Age 40.

It was easy to keep homes clean 50 years ago when most families had 2 parents living off of a single income. It’s a lot harder to keep stuff clean when all the adults in the house work full time.

I work in an industry where we send servicemen into peoples homes. You would be absolutely surprised how many half-million dollar homes are absolutely filthy inside.

Because boomers did a horrible job of instilling honor and discipline in their children

Go walk around damn near any public gathering. A lot of people these days just don't seem to give a frick about how they look. I'm sure they don't care how their house looks either

It's a reflection of how poorly they are able to manage even the minor things in their own life. If one simply cannot maintain order in such a small area of space they are charged with taking care of, then who are they to tell anyone else how to live their life? People will forgo individual responsibilities, judge their neighbors for the same behavior, and that is ultimately an indicator of a society gone wrong.

When I turned 40 I got a cleaning compulsion for some reason. I can’t just sit around anymore unless I’ve just finished cleaning or straightening up or some kind of home improvement type thing. It’s probably not healthy but at least my house is clean.

yes there is. If you don’t notice the common denominator, you’re probably in that number

I believe it.

Went to a beautiful home a while back where we were drinking on the porch and the woman cooked us dinner. When I went to help do dishes, she goes “Oh no I always do it the next day”.

When I say there was a total disaster from cooking, I don’t just mean plates in the sink. She left whole arse pots with food on the stove, pieces of food in the stovetop grates, open packages of stuff on the counters, flour on the floor, etc. When I opened the dishwasher, none of the dishes had been rinsed and it smelled like rancid food.

I do not leave dishes for the next day Unless maybe it’s a big party and we ran the washer before bed and there was still stuff left.

My parents worked full time and we kept our house clean.

Key points:
- we all pitched in
- we didn't waste all day on electronics

Any family today can do these things.

there can be several common denominators.

People are slob because they are lazy and lack discipline....the are slobs and lack discipline because they are either on drugs, alcoholics, raised poorly, poor, just dont give a frick or have a busy life and schedule.

We have housekeepers that used to come twice a week...we cut that down to once a week but there's no way our house would be in the order and shape it's in without help.

Comes from however your parents raised you.

I went to school with a guy whose parents’ house was always filthy. When he bought his own house it was the same.

yeah frick all that...we dont let anything stay in the sink overnight and we run the dishwasher every night after everyone is fished eating.

I clean and load the dishwasher as I cook..whether we have company over or not. I cant stand a sink full of dirty dishes/pots/pans

People are just lazy and love an excuse. It’s not hard to keep a clean house if you make a point to do the little things every day. You can’t just let everything pile up and snowball. It’s part of being a responsible adult.

It’s easy to come home, throw your shoes off, throw your dirty clothes on the floor. and collapse into the sofa. It’s better for your life to come home, put your shoes away, put your clothes in a hamper, and clean up any mess from the day before before you relax .

if you have two parents working and cant afford help, they should probably reconsider what they’re doing
