Used to be able to find a good project car from the 60s-70s in running condition for under 6k that just needed some body and interior work and partial engine rebuild to increase performance.

Now a rusted up rolling chassis with no drivetrain will run about 3-5k on any halfway popular model. Anything that runs and drives will be near 10k or higher.

Been wanting a project car but I just can’t find any in my price range that I can handle the work on my own. I have no interest in spending 5k on a body and having to do a frame off restoration (plus I don’t have the mechanical ability to do that). Sucks

Everything will settle back down, and some models have had a price decline.

I want a 60s Buick or Cadillac, or almost any muscle car from the late 60s early 70s.

Buy the car done. You will always be upside down on a builder, unless you have something truly unique.

I see those on Barrett Jackson and think WHY? I’d want something that handles well.

Kinda defeats the purpose if you’re doing it because you enjoy the process of doing it yourself.

Exactly this. The guys that are hitting retirement age are buying cars from their youth. Cars from the 40's and 50's aren't as ridiculously priced because that generation is all dead.

But then all the younger gen x’ers and millennials are going to be buying Plymouth Prowlers and Dodge Vipers in a few years.

Can't wait to retire in 40 years and buy a 2020 Shelby GT500 for 10 million Rubles

Appreciate it. Its not (showroom, haul on a trailer type) its a cruiser. Original striaght 6 in it, 3 on the tree. I have it as much as original looking as i could get it. No after market cd player, no ac.. have original style radai, but it does have an aux pigtail behind it i can hook ipod or something to. Only speaker it has is the one in the dash like from factory.

Supply and demand dictates the price. I have been blessed by a incredible father who took great care of his fathers truck. It was just passed down to me, including all the memories that go with Ol’ Red.

Doggo loves to ride in the back!

My grandfather has a metallic mint green Starfire that he is restoring to drive before he can’t drive anymore. His eyesight is poor and he recently broke his hip so doubt he does much more with it. I’m currently fighting my uncle for first dibs if he decides to sell it

its because new cars costing $60k drives the market price up

but you still are better off dropping $40-$50k into a fully restored muscle car or 60s-80s fully restored truck then buying the new trash they sell at dealerships

The whole old-new car system is upside down.
Simple bolt-on performance parts for new cars such as air filters, exhaust systems, wheels and tires are insanely priced, but the market is there.
