City Park New Orleans - When did the ducks turn into Ibis's?

Grew up in New Orleans in the 70's. City Park had white ducks with orange bills. At some point in the '00's their bills turned to bumpy black and orange. Now they've been replaced by Ibis's. I never remember seeing an Ibis anywhere in New Orleans.

The real problem is the non migrating Canada Geese that are colonize Bayou St John and the Park.

Between the reduction in the number of hunters and increased enforcement of the migratory bird act, the number of old guys shooting Ibises is way down.
Ibises aren’t much of a sporting bird to hunt, but they are one of the best tasting wild birds to eat. Like hunting chickens in your back yard.
So the population has boomed. That’s my theory anyway!

Similar situation in Metairie. Growing up there, all the canals had were nutria rats. In the last 20 years, I've seen ducks (regular ones and Muscovy ducks which look like geese), wading birds (like herons, cranes and egrets), the occasional pelican, and on at least two occasions I've seen small alligators in the canals. The deeper canals also have some large fish (carp mostly).
The ducks and wading birds now venture into the neighborhood: waddling down streets, resting in the shade by cars and under bushes, and egrets wandering in front yards eating bugs, lizards and snails:
In terms of flying birds, growing up in the 70s and 80s we used to mainly have mockingbirds, sparrows & wrens with the occasional blue jay or cardinal. Nowadays I see a LOT more crows and bigger birds of prey, mostly kites and hawks.
We also have a lot more 'wild' mammals like raccoons, and I never saw a possum in Metairie growing up but I see them all the time now. I've even seen a bat or two, and the guy two doors down had one get in his house!
I think it's kind of cool how nature is finding a way.
