re: Maytag washer touch screen

Follow up - Per Maytag website I unplugged it for 5 minutes to reset. Also learned that I can't let other fingers or edge of hand rest on the panel area while I'm waiting on process. Just the point of my finger on the start button.

I did some quick Apple Maps walking directions between various landmarks in the Centro Historico and they all come up "mostly flat". St. Peter's Basilica to Trevi Fountain, Trevi fountain to a restaurant in Trestavere, Roma Termini to the Pantheon...
It's not San Francisco. There may be rises and drops but over the distance it's evens out. At those distances they would probably Taxi.
Now will walking through the Roman Forum, around the Colosseum on a tour, up the Spanish Steps,...Okay...those might be difficult.
Just can't understand going to Africa over Italy. But that's my opinion.

Replaced an older Maytag that we had no problems with at all until we overloaded it one too many times and blew out a bearing or something.
Maytag washer touch screen
Posted by coldcoldcajun on 5/1/26 at 7:57 am
Bought a new Maytag washer in December. Has touch screen controls. I need to hold my finger on the start touch pad for about 30 seconds until I see the Maytag logo appear, then keep holding until I get a “restarting” screen. Need to keep holding while screen goes black for another 30 seconds until a 5,4,3,2,1 countdown starts. Sometimes an hourglass shows up for 30 seconds, sometimes not. Then I finally get an actual working touch screen with the options for temp, speed, and dirt level. At that point I should be able to cycle through those and put my finger on the actual “play” touch pad. 1 1/2 minutes or so just to get the thing to start.
Does anyone else have one of these and is this lunacy the way yours works? I just had to try the process about 10 times because it kept kicking turning off before I could hit the cycles on the touch screen itself. Had to unplug for 5 minutes for a hard reset. Finally got it to cooperate on the 2nd try after plugging back in.

You can tour the USS Midway docked at the bay front off of downtown.

Hawkster - Not sure what happened to you in Italy that made you hate it so much. I guess I’m a pathetic prick because I enjoyed every moment of my 2 week 5 city visit to Italy. Granted I was in my mid-50’s and was able to put in the 30,000 steps a day we put ourselves through. I don’t remember Rome being hilly. Florence either. Cinque Terre yes if you do the walks between cities so I suggest they don’t go there. Venice is flat except for all the bridges you need to use to cross the canals and walking is really the only option. My closest to Tuscany experience was Assisi which had a lot of slope from one end of town to the other, but it was wonderful.
If they’ve never been to Italy I think they should go before they really can’t do it. Stay at a hotel that has a good roomy lift. Plan to use Taxi’s. World class museums, art, and architecture. They can see giraffe’s and elephants at Audubon Zoo or Animal Kingdom. They can’t see Michalangelo’s David or Pieta there. They can’t experience the Colosseum or Pantheon or Vatican City/ St. Peter’s Basilica on the Serengeti. They should enjoy a Cappucino in the morning at a cafe, an Aperol Spritz in the afternoon at another cafe, and a gelato in the evening at another.
I’ve got a whole new list of things to do in Italy the next time I go when I will be in my mid-60’s and I will go back.

Lakefront Brewing has a great restaurant somewhat Munich beer hall like with great food. The Brewery tour was one of the best I’ve been on. A great “rags to riches” story, “free beer”, and a free pint glass. Central Waters didn’t have a tour as far as I know and their tap room is pretty low key, kind of like an old church/school cafeteria with a stage even though its in an old warehouse or office building downtown by the arena.
Tour the Pabst Mansion near Marquette University. The Milwaukee Food Hall was a nice afternoon. Stop at Foltz Family Market their for Brats or a half rotisserie chicken and wash it down with a Spotted Cow.
If you’re a Frank Lloyd Wright fan and have time drive down to Racine and tour the Johnson Wax Building and Wingspread house.
If you’re Catholic go to Sunday mass at the Basilica of St. Joshaphat. Free tour after the 10 AM mass. Not much to look at on the outside, but a wonderful interior with an interesting story.

I think we went to Arlington via the Hop On-Hop Off bus if you were thinking of doing that. It was a great way to see the major sites. Used it all day. Was a nice way to see the monuments at night.

There is a shopping mall on the north east corner of the Rialto Bridge that has a roof top viewing area...no charge. About 5 stories up so great views of the Grand Canal.
One of our favorite meals in Italy was dinner at Osteria La Zucca. Refreshingly not overly "Italian".
You'll see squid ink pasta on all the menus. Had it at a seafood restaurant that was highly recommended on Yelp. It was nothing special.
Don't eat while walking around...our first day we grabbed a slice at a small storefront. We were trying to get to a church or something before tours stopped so started on our way. Got a serious snarl from an older gentleman. (Might actually be a ticketable offense).
It was also our 4th Italian city in 2 weeks so when we saw an Irish Pub we decided to step in for a beer. Nachos on the menu...so we thought why not for an afternoon snack. "Why not" was a plate of potato chips with ketchup on them. So the moral is don't get nachos in an Irish Pub in Venice Italy.

Throw out the paper map if you get one. Locate your destination on Google or Apple maps but don't try to follow it. Download a compass on your phone, and when you the map says turn right go east, turn left go west, etc... You'll be driven crazy trying to find the "street" name sign because it will be a an old ceramic tile plaque about 25' up on the corner of an old building. And the street you've been looking for...that's the 30-inch wide alley that goes about 3 buildings deep. The fun is all in the confusion and what you'll discover next!
re: Business trip voucher dilemma

Baldona, the office manager tried that first, but Delta said it had to be a voucher in the ticket holder’s name. Not sure how other airlines would have done it.

Thanks Lemmy, good business points. We’ll eat the extra cost I guess.

Yes it's Delta. The best fare we've found so far is $711 on Air Lingus non-stop. The Delta fares for those same dates and approximate times are $300 more for non-stop and $255 more for a 3 hour longer flight with a stop in Boston. So $500 - 600 more with my wife's ticket. I'd rather spend that on Guinness and fish and chips while I'm over there.
Should I challenge my boss to ask him to chip in? I've had a lot of people tell me he would have asked for the reimbursement from the client. I'm going to retire in July anyway, but I've been with him for over 35 years and he's been a great boss.

Business trip voucher dilemma
Posted by coldcoldcajun on 2/10/26 at 9:34 am
Our small company normally doesn't travel to other locations but a large international client wanted us to visit another of their locations that they were shutting down and relocating the equipment as part of our project. The boss bought flights on the company card. Of course they were expensive because it was short notice. My wife and I already had a week plus vacation at WDW planned and would be flying back the night before the business flight. By the end of the vacation I was wiped out, took a covid test and of course positive. Let my boss know that night and we agreed that I shouldn't fly the next morning and then spread to another fight and our clients. The airline wouldn't refund and instead gave a voucher, and since the ticket was in my name, the voucher is in my name. My boss said when I want to use it just pay him back the $900. I don't think he feels comfortable asking for reimbursement for a ticket that wasn't used. The client company sends their people all over the world. My wife and I are planning a trip to Europe for this summer but feel like we are stuck with buying that airline which is more expensive than others we are finding. Am I wrong to tell my boss to stick it and ask for reimbursement or just eat it for saving the client's employees (and him, other people on the flight, at the airport,...) from getting sick?

People love him because he worked his arse off to become a valuable member of the team. Comes in and drains 3 after 3. Earned 6th man of the year a couple of years ago. Plus its just fun to say “Naz Reid”. One of my favorite local breweries has a great hazy IPA named after him during the season. I’m not a tattoo guy but I might just get one (see link). Thanks Prominetwon! I can justify that price for a shirt I will probably wear twice a season.

Not expecting off the shelf. You used to be able to go to a store and buy a blank jersey and have your own name and numbers put on it. Won’t find an LSU jersey up here. Don’t know the stores down there.

Would like to have one to wear to Timberwolves games. When I look online I just get a couple of sites that I could spend about $80. Are there any places in the BR area that could put his name on the back and the number 0 on the front and back? Not looking for an authentic to the time he played.

Jay Ward quietly rising up the Vikings roster. Made it on special teams play but got a lot of defensive play this season.

I second Italy! Days 1 - 4 in Rome, 4 - 7 in Florence, 7-9 Cinque Terre, 9-10 back to Rome.
So much to do in Rome: Coliseum, Forum, Pantheon, Castle Sant Angelo, St. Peter’s, Vatican tours, Trastevere, day tour down to Pompeii …. Great food!
Florence: Great museums, Michelangelo’s David, The Duomo, Medici Chapel, Santa Croce, Ponte Vecchio,….Great food!
Cinque Terre: A vacation from your vacation…no museums, no must see churches, hike/walk/train between and just wander the small villages at your own pace and enjoy the views of the Mediterranean…Oh, and great food!f

Will be going in May or June. 4 nights in Dublin with day trips on coaches to Wicklow/Gendalough and Newgrange. 2 nights in Kilkenny. 2 nights in Cork with day trips to Cobh and Kinsale. 1 night in Doolin for Cliffs of Moher. Then 2 nights in Galway.
I’ve had people say less time in Dublin, more in Galway. And I’m wondering if trying to get to both Cobh and Kinsale takes too much time from Cork itself.
Will be taking busses and trains. I’m not driving on the wrong side of a 10’ wide road sitting on the wrong side of the car hoping I can drive a stick after 40 years!
